Real talk, this thread made me think about it more.at this Usher/Ginuwine debate
I never said he wasn't a star. I wanted to know why he wasn't bigger star. I felt like he could have reached usher level stardom wise. He was probably just as talented.
For people who said age didn't play a part in Ginuwine's career
4:40 mark
Sidenote: that interviewer was crazy as catshyt.....Timbo looked like he was gonna hit that tho that night
When he first came out, they was spreading rumors he was born in 1975 I wonder why
He hit his peak in his early 30s....he just didn't debut until he was 26 but I think that was a good thing....he was mature and knew who he was already so he dropped classics instantly
Ginuwine is alot more talented than usher.
but yea, I understand what youre trying to ask. youre asking why Ginuwine wasn't diamond status, and household name in middle America like usher.
difference is, usher was more popcorn/bubble-gum and he had a huge machine behind him. he was tailored for the crossover, while Ginuwine really just aimed at the urban market. sure he crossed over a little bit himself, but that wasn't his aim,
its like comparing jodeci to boyz II men
uptown to laface
rocafella to aftermath
monica to brandy
add 'Ginuwine to usher' to that list
He was a multi platinum artist but most of his fans were black people. Nobody said he was a flop but he wasnt MAINSTREAM like Usher was.
Usher has an overall bigger fanbase because his music also has pop influences. He got them cac fans too.
Gins music was too hood..
Ginuwine is a good singer I give him that, but he was just the one of the many "good singers" that were in the game back when R&B was in it's prime. I can bring up a bunch of underrated R&B singers, e.g. TQ, Ali, and even Mario (who is a one-hit wonder).
