Timbaland was giving his best beats to Aaliyah and kinda brought his C-game for G.

For people who said age didn't play a part in Ginuwine's career

4:40 mark :mjpls:

Sidenote: that interviewer was crazy as catshyt.....Timbo looked like he was gonna hit that tho that night :shaq:

When he first came out, they was spreading rumors he was born in 1975 :sas2: I wonder why

He hit his peak in his early 30s....he just didn't debut until he was 26 :manny: but I think that was a good thing....he was mature and knew who he was already so he dropped classics instantly

:mjlol: at this Usher/Ginuwine debate
Real talk, this thread made me think about it more.

Now I’m coming from a 1990s kids perspective, my mom is the same age as G and played his tapes at the crib/in the whip when I was coming up.

So imo, G was for the grown folks while Ursh was more catered to younger people like me.

I didn’t wanna be Ginuwine but I was learning the Nice and Slow lyrics for the lil mamas :shaq:

I vividly remember singing that shyt in class in unison with other kids :mjlol:

Now I’m my mom/Ginuwines age and I like Ginuwines music more tho :ohhh:

Unpopular Opinion: The Bachelor isn’t really that great of an album aside from 3 songs imo.

I never said he wasn't a star. I wanted to know why he wasn't bigger star. I felt like he could have reached usher level stardom wise. He was probably just as talented.

Ginuwine is alot more talented than usher.

but yea, I understand what youre trying to ask. youre asking why Ginuwine wasn't diamond status, and household name in middle America like usher.

difference is, usher was more popcorn/bubble-gum and he had a huge machine behind him. he was tailored for the crossover, while Ginuwine really just aimed at the urban market. sure he crossed over a little bit himself, but that wasn't his aim,

its like comparing jodeci to boyz II men
uptown to laface
rocafella to aftermath
monica to brandy
add 'Ginuwine to usher' to that list

I think my opinion has changed a bit over time looking back in this thread.

Bout time usher got into his 8701 era I think it was clear that usher had taken a big step as a performer & vocalist that ginuwine never took.

This thread isn't rocket science...Ginuwine got maximum support from the black audience but outside of Pony barely got that MTV Z100 pop love

He was a multi platinum artist but most of his fans were black people. Nobody said he was a flop but he wasnt MAINSTREAM like Usher was.

Usher has an overall bigger fanbase because his music also has pop influences. He got them cac fans too.

Gins music was too hood..

Basically the 90s version of Keith Sweat with not as many hits

Ginuwine being Keith Sweat
Usher being Bobby Brown

Ginuwine is a good singer I give him that, but he was just the one of the many "good singers" that were in the game back when R&B was in it's prime. I can bring up a bunch of underrated R&B singers, e.g. TQ, Ali, and even Mario (who is a one-hit wonder).

How on earth is Mario a one hit wonder?
