:mjlol: the crack must taste like skittles and lemonade where you live...

I couldn't even read past this dumb shyt...a 15 second google search crushes this dumbass statement

i'm not even gonna post the glaringly obvious, how about you show me where ginuwine outsold aaliyah.

no youre just a young dumbass.

probably didn't even know about Aaliyah until after she died. she was big but not nearly as big as they make her out to be in hindsight. she wasnt even the 2nd biggest act in her most specific lane.

I lived thru this chit. you rely on google searches 20 years after the fact.

just because youre on the same team, it doesn't mean youre on the same tip.

for starters, Ginuwine was bigger than Aaliyah and sold more records. it may seem like Aaliyah was bigger because she got way more promotion(btw, they were not on the same label)
but she was not as big as Ginuwine.

and Aaliyah was kid chit just like usher breh. theres no comparison really.

haha @ 1980s sears catalog model. lol. good chit.

yep. on point.

problem is this is a rap board.

that's where the confusion comes in with a lot of these posts I'm reading. a lot of misconceptions.

no the hell he didn't.

look, I know this is gonna sound crazy on a rap board, but timbaland was in the way. Ginuwine was smart for trying to get other producers, cuz if he stayed with just timbo, he would've had more of a novelty act legacy.

with timbaland at the helm, we would've never got CLASSICS like
differences
in those jeans
stingy
love you more
and a gang of others.

and I don't know why people are so concerned with him getting back with timbaland. Ginuwine came back droppin hits, then got with TGT and had the r&b chit on smash. all while timbaland has been making mostly corny ass pop tart music for the past 14 years.

The Bachelor and 100% say otherwise. You're comparing five songs to two albums that are widely considered classic. If Ginuwine's doing a concert, guarantee most of the set list is comprised of songs from the first two albums. Ginuwine himself says that 100% is his best work. Just from that album alone, you have "So Anxious", "None Of Ur Business", "Same 'Ol G", "Wait A Minute", and "Final Warning".

And LOL @ Ginuwine having more of novelty act legacy staying with Timbaland. Ginuwine without Timbaland gives you a handful of a good records. Ginuwine's albums with Timbaland are his legacy. None of his other albums ever measured up.

"Try Again" is bigger than any Ginuwine record ever. That song set a record. Aaliyah was already huge before anybody had even heard of Ginuwine.

what record?

I honestly never paid attention to that kidz bop ass song.

I know she came out with an album a year later, and it flopped initially.

It's the first song to ever chart #1 solely based on radio airplay.

Aaliyah did not initially flop. The first week numbers for that album were actually higher than what Brandy and Monica did in their first week in '98. It was nearly 3X as much as what One In A Million did first week.

what are you talking about? you obviously didn't understand the point that I was making AT ALL.

f*ckin around with timbaland, Ginuwine didn't have the slow jams & such. that's what really solidifies an r&b legacy. not just singing over borderline rap beats. that there makes you a novelty of sorts if that's your main claim to fame. if stuff like Pony were ginuwine's only signature records, he would possibly be montell jordan status.

its like dude told you in that Devante or jodeci thread a while back. timbo lacks melody.
he lacks the melodies needed to pull off the hits Ginuwine was droppin without him.

who cares? this is like one of those useless WWE or ESPN stats.

You don't know what you're talking about. Ginuwine had slow jams with Timbaland. "Tell Me" and "So Anxious" are not slow jams.

And :laff: at conveniently throwing Devante into the mix. Put it this way, Devante obviously lacked because Ginuwine has two albums produced by Timbaland. How many of Ginuwine's classics are produced by Devante?

If you think "Pony" is the only signature record that Ginuwine has with Timbaland, you don't know what you're talking about.

Whether it's a "WWE or ESPN" stat is irrelevant, you asked a question and I provided an answer.

Discount the sales in '98. Aaliyah's first week for that album were also higher than the album Brandy dropped 8-9 months later. They were on par with Monica's '03 numbers.

He should have been bigger. His biggest problem to me was a lot of his songs were watered down and boring (singles-wise) outside of Pony. Timbaland was giving his best beats to Aaliyah and kinda brought his C-game for G.

But I will say that the first time I heard pony was in the car with my cousin and uncle we jammed that so loud...nothing musically had ever sounded like that before.

ginuwine- better slow jams

Aaliyah- better uptempo

Na it's true, I was laughing at "king of biter" lol None of JD artists are regular ideas from him

JD stole the whole Xscape idea from Devante, Devante had a girl group coming called "Sista" (Missy was apart of that group) he was gonna make them the female Jodeci, from style to sound. They rocked bandanas & ponytails

Ginuwine didn't become a bigger star because the albums after 100% weren't as great. Yeah, he had a string of hits afterward, but Ginuwine wasn't just a singles artist. His albums were copped. And yes, people missed the chemistry between Ginuwine and Timbaland. It doesn't matter how big of a star you become or how many hits you have, once you break chemistry, it can make or break the rest of your career. As dope as Dangerous is as an album and as great as Teddy Riley is as a producer, people still wanted a Michael Jackson/Quincy Jones reunion. Same goes for Snoop/Dre and pretty much any producer/artist combo that made classic music together.

To top it off, you can see where Timbaland took Justin Timberlake. "Cry Me A River" pretty much defined JT's solo career. The music Tim created with Justin was pretty much an extension of what he did with Ginuwine.
