Yes. Like JR smith he had good games but never consistent throughout the season. Ginuwine had hits. Usher had albums. Confessions is the R&B album of our generation. Does Ginuwine have that? Is Ginuwine still putting out music? And this isn't me saying Ginuwine is trash. nikka just wasn't as good as Usher
i said in my post the first two albums are underrated classics and im not the only one in the camp. 100% in particular is :ohlawd:

Its all subjective. To me, G had 2 dope albums without a skip. I never heard an Usher joint i fukked with all the way through, although I will absolutely acknowledge Confessions as the r&b album of our generation. No debate on that. G deserve a lil more respect than JR Smith tho. nikka never made an all star team. T-mac is an apt comparison. Pony is a scoring title record. Differences is a scoring title record. In those jeans is an off the backboard dunk in the allstar game record...G vs. Usher was a discussion at one point like Kobe and T-mac was. Dont revise history. G fell off, no doubt. But when he was on, he was on :yeshrug:

If him and tim stayed down, :whew:

nikka are u retarded? Tevin Campbell was marketed as a young MJ by Quincy jones himself VOCALLY. But that shyt switched as soon as he hit his growth spurt. But it was VOCALS that was compared. I'm talking about dancing with Ginuwine. He was a damn MJ impersonator before he got on. He came in the game doin MJ moves n shyt and ain't no solo RnB artist was doin that shyt in the mid 90s. Like I said. U have NO IDEA what the fukk u talkin bout. Ain't u the same nikka who said Mario 64 wasn't groundbreaking? If not forgive me but if u are..Lol man fukk outta here u wrong about damn near everything u talk about.

Yea you furious and upset. No reason to even properly reply. And then you trying to move goal post, even to other topics.

:francis: As a former Ginuwine stan, I can confirm folks did care about his age during his fifth album, "Back II da Basics" (I was a Junior in High School at the time, 2005-2006). Which was always odd to me because Jamie Foxx dropped his "Unpredictable" album around the same & that album went Double Platinum despite Jamie Foxx being at least 3 years older than Ginuwine.
Well, G ain't no Jamie Foxx and that's not slight against him.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Yea I hated Avant. He was such an R. kelly clone but he did have some nice music though. Joe never got the proper respect he deserved IMO. This thread made me pull out my 5 hour 90s R&B mix.
Joe was my nikka. Lol Avant had 3 joints I banged wit heavy but I always looked at him like a cornball. Read Your Mind. Separated. Makin Good Love.

:dwillhuh: Mario isn't a 1-hit wonder. He had at least 1 hit on all 4 of his albums.
:patrice:I dunno bout ALL 4. I didn't recall much from Go.

I'm just glad we can have a platinum convo about R&B :blessed:, even if we disagree.

When would you say he was done?

Meh, I never looked at it that way back than. Ginuwine had just went on tour with Jagged Edge, Avant, Joe, & ATL the previous year and Ginuwine was the headliner.

Just for me as a fan checking for him, G was done around 2001 for me. I had moved on to Craig David, Jaheim, Tyrese, music etc. :manny:

I think G was so dope with Timb that once that was over his music wasn't the same to me overall.

Outside of "My Name Is Joe" album, he'll always be underrated, but at least he got his moment in the sun with that album and those singles.

tha't sfunny, b/c R. KElly criticized Joe for "trying to sound like him", but then turned around and gave him "More & More". I will say Avant's career lasted longer than I thought it would have. Him and Carl Thomas came out same time and Carl was gone pretty quickly mainstream-wise

lol....I'm seeing narratives in this thread I've NEVER heard before in life.

I've never heard anyone refer to JD as a biter. This dude came out with KRiss Kross, Da Brat, Bow Wow, etc. As a producer, he never did anything amazing to my ears, but his sound was never bitten from anyone else.

I coudl be wrong if someone can provide some examples.

Na it's true, I was laughing at "king of biter" lol None of JD artists are regular ideas from him

Dude u serious? JD was bitin heavy. Kriss Kross and ABC. Da Brat and Snoop. This shyt is a known fact JD has no shame. Lol I fukk wit JD I think he's dope but dude was comin out wit carbon copies of other artists.

JD stole the whole Xscape idea from Devante, Devante had a girl group coming called "Sista" (Missy was apart of that group) he was gonna make them the female Jodeci, from style to sound. They rocked bandanas & ponytails

Yea man JD was a huge biter. That was known even back in the day. He sharked whoever was poppin at the time. Him trying to turn Kriss Kross into ganbangers with dikkie suites and 64s was hilarious.

:mjlol:

He even stole Bad Boy and Timberland's template for R&B groups down to making clone groups like @Puff Daddy said.

Ginuwine was only 25 when Pony came out, idk why nikkas keep saying he was 30+ at his peak or mad old. He spent 5 years in the Bassment Crew with Timbo, Missy, Magoo, & Static (there was more like Tweet but their probably the only ones y'all know)

Ginuwine used to pose as Devante in videos with Jodeci when he ain't wanna show up (for example)

he was big star though :ld:and he did really well for himself

his 1st 2 albums "the bachelor" and "100%" are classics and his catalog even post that is pretty solid with albums like "the life", "the senior", and "back II basics". now those last 3 albums were a bit spotty in places but all 3 all had some nice songs on them and by the time he put out the "back II basics" the general and casual fan had moved on but i remember gettin' that album and thinkin' to myself, "damn, people sleepin' because g just put out a good album" :mindblown:

now things did shift a bit after him and timbaland went there separate ways but ginuwine did continue to put out some decent albums and songs post his work with timbaland however the casual fan had moved on and won't tryin' to hear it but people who know they music knew he was still puttin' out some nice tracks

ginuwine catered to r&b fanbase. he didn't really do the pop thing so comparin' him to usher is apples and oranges because usher hasn't always keep it r&b and there's nothin' wrong with explandin' ya sound so long as the shyt is good (and some of usher's ventures outside of r&b were shytty but that's neither here nor there lmao)

lemme put it like this, ginuwine been doin' his thing since he first came on the scene as an artist under the name "tornado" from devante's "da bassment" camp. you couldn't come from devante's camp and not be the shyt. ginuwine did his thing and left a mark in this game and real fans of music know what's up.

After the falling out with Tim his star started to dim. Elgin isn't the most interesting personality in the world so Timbaland's production & guidance really helped make him seem edgy and more palatable to the buying public. Other producers he worked with were too conventional so Timbaland was ahead of them therefor anybody Tim worked with was ahead of anybody they worked with including Elgin.
