He just made music
All these things put together make the difference imo
- He didn't have any public controversy/ narrative (Usher cheating on chilli/ the "confessions" era)
- He didn't marry a high profile female artist (Solé, compared to Chilli, 1/3 of TLC who went diamond)
- He didn't have a huge feature run. Not enough features on hit songs. I think features count i mean look at Lil Wayne. Dude's star only got brighter when he was everywhere during that 2004-2011 run. Alotta people disregard/underestimate features. Even future has a big fanbase cause he was the dude on the hook for alotta records that were everywhere...
- Like others said, he started when he was older. So his target demographic was older. And eventually those young adults gain responsibilities and you fall to the wayside. Unless you hit them in the gut while they're young. Which bleeds into the next point...
- Not enough catchy songs. Music on par with usher, but what i mean by catchy is if a kid or adolescent can recite your hooks or lines verbatim without even knowing what the song is about until like 10 years later.
All these things put together make the difference imo
He just cooled down while Ush continued to heat up.
All stars fade some time and G's faded out after 2002. Maybe if he had a relationship with a singer from a female group, he would've lasted longer. But he married Sole. Also few cameos in movies might have helped too (Usher was in She's All That and The Faculty).
not really sure why you felt the need to tell me that
As a former Ginuwine stan, I can confirm folks did care about his age during his fifth album, "
JR Smith? Word?.
