Ur wrong. The whole MJ mold thing came straight from Ginuwine who was literally the ONLY RnB artist doin that shyt in the mid 90s. Ginuwine brought that shyt back and made it fashionable for solo singers when no one was doin it. And white people till this day fukk wit PONY more than any Usher song that came out in the 90s.
Nah breh. I respect ur R&B knowledge, but I disagree.
Yes. White ppl love Pony, but outside of that they don't care about Ginuwine. Period. "Differences" is chart-wise his biggest single and that wasn't really a crossover smash like Pony. To a lesser degree Pony is like Ignition (remix) to white ppl. It's the 1 Ginuwine song they have in their entire collection. But I bet they have U Make Me Wanna or Nice & Slow, My Way, etc
But let's back this all the way up to 1993. Usher first single "Cal Me a MAck" He's wearing fedoras in the video, he's doing some light dancing, so Ginuwine didn't start that.
Secondly, they didn't know what to do with Usher. He was a kid but they put him with DeVante Swing and Puffy for his first two singles. They were trying to make him a kid singer who was appealing to adults. And it wasn't successful, so they turned him more pop/r&b
I just think it's laughable to say that Ginuwine influenced Usher. I will say Ginuwine brought back the solo entertainer Male R&B star role b/c after Bobby Brown, things kinda shifted to the R&B group. R. KElly said he only came out with Public Announcement because you had to be in a group back then to get on. Ginuwine brought showmanship back, but Usher didn't see Ginuwine and then decide to take dance lessons.
