They usually put out quality games that are well optimized. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say they’re the most talented
Outside fighting games and rhythm games, nah.

Rise of the Ronin has framerate issues.
FF7 REbirth & 16 also suffer from this.
Dragon's Dogma 2, Monster Hunter. Elden Ring.

They are good and output is better than Western devs but Western devs get punished for things that they get a pass on by gamers.

Y’all keep bringing up examples to the contrary which is fine but I’m speaking from a relative standpoint

ChatGPT seems to agree with me :manny:

Q: Hey ChatGPT, which country would you say makes the most optimized video games?

A: When it comes to the most optimized video games, Japan, the United States, and Poland are often cited as leading countries in terms of game development quality.

### Japan
Japan has a long history of crafting well-optimized games that run smoothly on various platforms. Developers like Nintendo and Capcom are known for consistently delivering games with great performance and few technical issues. For instance, Nintendo titles like *The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild* or *Super Mario Odyssey* are renowned for their smooth performance on relatively less powerful hardware.

### United States
The U.S. is home to many of the world's biggest game developers, like Rockstar Games and Naughty Dog, which are known for high production values and pushing hardware capabilities. Rockstar's *Grand Theft Auto* and *Red Dead Redemption* series often impress with detailed open worlds that run efficiently across platforms. Similarly, Naughty Dog's *Uncharted* and *The Last of Us* series are recognized for their excellent balance of visual fidelity and smooth gameplay.

### Poland
In recent years, Poland has emerged as a major player in the industry, primarily due to CD Projekt Red's *The Witcher* series. Despite the launch issues with *Cyberpunk 2077*, CD Projekt Red has since worked to optimize the game, demonstrating its commitment to improving performance. Techland, another Polish developer, is known for its well-optimized *Dying Light* games.

Ultimately, "most optimized" can vary depending on what a player values, such as minimal bugs, smooth frame rates, or hardware efficiency. Japanese studios often focus on polished, bug-free experiences, while American studios push technical boundaries, and Polish developers blend storytelling with optimization in impressive ways.

Thread all over the place, when you start talking about optimization and not just the complete package, when you do that America auto loses because of how big the indie scene is.

Also optimization is subjective to a certain extent. Some of y'all in this very thread have played multiple unoptimized games this year and are ready to go give them GOTY.

Infact 2 of the sticked threads shows this, one has over 2k replies and is active daily, the other was optimized far better, and is from Japan, came out more recently, and has a faction of the activity.

Who made the better game? :jbhmm:

I strongly agree with this, I'm not even sure why Japan is so lackluster at Indie titles.

The US/EU/China/Korea absolutely kill it.
I think it's due to that for most Japanese devs, not only is it more relatively easier to be scooped up by the big boys, but also, as someone else stated, the company man mantra and generally being less likely to be fired, the machine keeps all the talent more often than not. Funny enough, outside of Kojima, it seems some of the more notable devs, upon going indie, they don't seem to do so well. Maybe they strive better under that company structure.

They are the godfathers but it seems like in Japan most of the time the corp suits let the gamers and devs do their thing. Alot of American/uk made games were made with small studios
