Depends on what you want your body to look like... will you live tho? Yes
Also, your type of workout. If you just lift, you want carbs to be your main source if energy since weightlifting exercises more of your fast twitch muscles which use mostly sugar for energy. Ifyou do cardio also, you want to eat a lot of fat since it trains your slow twitch fibers mostly and that burns.mostly fat for energy. Even just for standing or walking slow twitch is mostly active and.the reason why the body prefers fat as its main source of energy.

Doesn't make sense that our bodies would be able to look muscular and beastly if eating the proteins to get that way lead to cancer. It has to be something else. Either the studies aren't looking into all the factors or something is off.

Maybe a lot of the people who eat tons of meat don't balance it with tons of grain, fruit, vegetables, nuts, etc.

Most people who look diesel just have low fat percentage and this shows more skeletal muscle. Anybody who wirks out naturally will tell you all those huge bodybuilders are doing more then just eating a lot of protein, they doing some unnatural things also. You can eat tons of protein but if your teststerone levels are low, you wont build shyt. You make testosterone from cholesterol not protein per se.

I get about 60-80 grams a day depending on if eat a lot of nuts or seeds. I eat 8 ounces of some type of bean or pea with around 7 ounces of dry rice in the daytime after I do my workout of weight lifting then cardio. At night I eat just some type of carb with a leafy green vegetable. For instance last night I had sauted cabbage with some pasta.

For snacks in the middle of the day I eat some type of seed with some dried fruit to keep my metabolism high. At night I just eat some type of nut to keep my immune system strong since it contains a lot of monounsaturated fat and protein which helps build up the immune system since sleeptime is when your bidy repairs itself.

Do you have a pic of your physique on hand? No homo, but unless you're 5'0, 80 pounds I don't see how you can have a legit muscular physique with just 60 to 80 grams on the regular. Unless you're a female.

word, just make me consider how absurd that statement is:
kwashiorkor, and marasmus are two protein deficiencies that are slaughtering third world nations. People across the world can their hands on readily available carbs, but not sufficient enough sources of protein...
Those coutries rely on mostly maize for food, which is around 3 grams of protein per 1/4 cup. Add to the fact that it is llw in fiber and high jn sugar which uses up amink acid, can you see why they would be in low protein states?.

Now, look at places like india wo eat more beans and peas and other carbs. They arent suffering from protein issues.

Honestly on average I probably get around 80-110g of protein daily...

Most people do intake far too much protein, especially those who work out...

The general rule is .8g / per lbs

"Marasmus is caused by a severe deficiency of nearly all nutrients, especially protein and carbohydrates."

"Kwashiorkor is a form of severe protein-energy malnutrition characterized by edema, irritability, anorexia, ulcerating dermatoses, and an enlarged liver with fatty infiltrates. Sufficient calorie intake, but with insufficient protein consumption, distinguishes it from marasmus."

Looking at the incidence maps it seems that these two conditions are marked in in Mali and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. I would guess that people who get this have a food supply that is basically just yams.

well yeah beans + rice make a complete source of protein...

I think I get what you were trying to get at earlier and it was just a misunderstanding...

Nah, no picture but the secret is making sure I keep my hormone levels high. This way damn near all of my protein is used and not shytted out. This is why eating a lot of fat and the proper type at the right time is needed. Also, doing the proper exercises. Heres a tip, do cardio with some type of resistance. Increase the resistance weekly. This will help build a lot of mitochondria in your muscles and get your testosterone going in the long run. That is one secret. I gotta keep the rest for myself to keep people in awe since they believe vegetarians have to be stick figures.

Actually it's rice. But yams and rice would be probably do wonders though if this combo were in greater abundance since Yams are complete source of protein loaded with vitamins, and rice provide a sufficient stockpile of energy throughout the body...

How big are ya breh?

I'm 6'1, 220 pounds. So you're saying I don't need at least 180-220 grams of protein per day to maintain? What ball park should I be in then? Because anything drastically less goes against everything semtex and them in The Gym as well as hours of research I put into google told me.

Not saying you're wrong. I'm genuinely interested in alternatives.

Yeah, I think if you're trying to maintain a muscular physique then a high protein diet is sort of necessary. I definitely don't see how someone at your weight could eat <150g of protein a day and not lose muscle.

Personally I'm like 5'9 145 and don't have enough muscle for it to be worth worrying about :sadbron:.

Though I don't really see myself doing the low protein thing.

Word I was just going off of something I read about a population in west Africa whose diet was almost solely yuca root. Trying to find anything about anthropology & nutrition isn't easy without access to specialist database, any common google search just gives me links to crazy paleo blogs

:yeshrug:

Heavy muscular development is the result of lots of cell growth, which is a feature of cancer. Maybe a premium on encouraging that kind of growth is bad...

:patrice: Well I generally tend to stay on the leaner side of things. I'm only 5'9 / 5'10 170-175lbs.

Seeing as you're a lot bigger and active, 180g is probably approaching the upper limit of what is needed for you gain / maintain muscle on a consistent basis.

The main point @lotty was trying to address revolves around the concept of people are consuming protein amounts way over what is necessary. Which I agree.
