man, when comcast offered me either HBO or SHOWTIME for a year, I stupidly picked HBO. I should have picked showtime. I don't watch the HBO movies really, and there's no current TV series I'm interested in outside of girls.

showtimes has plenty of piff I'm watching:

house of lies
homeland
shameless
billions

ONLY redeeming quality HBO has right now is HBOGO with their library of old piff.

House of Lies and Billions are the shyt. I'm a sucker for every thing Billions does and HoL is just great overall. Even with most they old stuff,wire/oz/deadwood/rome/sopranos you can get it on Amazon Prime, if you have it. I guess they didn't really think this online stuff thru. I think Amazon automatically gets everything for their prime viewers 2-3 years after it airs, except GoT. And with HBO's recent track record, if you just like the old shows, you don't even need HBO to view it.

And if they want to get serious about making HBO Now "something", then they need to get that shyt on more than just apple products and pc. Bring that to consoles. Maybe knock the fee down to $9.99 a month.

HBO's definitely been missing lately. I never truly liked boardwalk. The only currently running show I like is the leftovers, besides GOT of course. I need to check out the Knick tho

The crazy thing is I thought they cancelled Boardwalk because it was expensive due to the accuracy of the clothes, set, and music in that time period and HBO went and did another show set in the past but instead of the story being about something easier for audiences to latch on to like crime/gangster a la Boardwalk they make a show about a music company in the 70s and they spent 100 million on the first season :snoop:

Alot of people don't even know about vinyl and that doesn't account the people who watched it illegally.

Definitely feels like there is some Scorsese fatigue. Or at least fatigue to a certain type of Scorsese subject matter. Especially coming off Wolf of Wall Street. Even that movie kind of had imo.

Scorcese is the GOAT storyteller and Vinyl does seem a lot like Wolf on Wall Street.

I was thinking the other day about a scorscse type movie like this about Lyor Cohen during Def Jams prime,

Gonna give this show some time

$100 million for that shyt?!? WTF was HBO thinking by throwing that much bread on something like that when they coulda made like 20 indie movies with that $$ and got some Oscar/SAG awards out of it in the process.

The show does an okay job at capturing the time period but it's not the next Sopranos, GOT, Sex and the City or even Entourage. I just wanna know where all the $$$ went because $100 mil buys a ton of bell bottoms and fake coke but the show simply doesn't deliver

I peeped the first 2 episodes and the only thing attracting my attention is how the blues singer got screwed over and is on the cusp of what eventually becomes Hip Hop

i dont know that i'll ever fully forgive HBO for bouncing How to Make it in America AND keeping that piece of sh*t emo show Girls

some of their decisions are just baffling

Sorry breh but How to Make It In America was weak AF and was a NY version of Entourage centered around a bunch of broke people. I could see why they tossed it into the bushes. Real talk, that show felt like Broad City, but with dudes who have significantly less fun and waste tons of time struggling for no damn reason.

And GIRLS was flat out forced on us and is the young, hipster version of Sex and the City with ugly bytches.

HBO is just "off" at this point and I'm more eager to see what Netflix and other networks have to offer. Narcos was a smash, Mr. Robot is bubbling, Better Call Saul is a great slow burner and Fargo is gonna continue to deliver.

Meanwhile, HBO is pushing out duds like Vinyl and the second season of True Detective. Ballers won't save the network and GOT has to end someday.

Cocaine :troll:

Yea i would much rather watch The Get Down show coming soon. Turned vinyl off after 15 minutes

Breh my dumb ass downloaded the 720p rips of both eps and was literally :snoop: because of the hard drive space I was wasting on a show that I knew was meh. The first episode was like 3gigs :snoop:. I deleted both and got the bullshyt mp4 rips. Only shows I'm really feeling are worth the quality rips. Vinyl immediately got downgraded as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather put effort in watching the OJ show instead.

Started episode 1, but it didn't keep my attention. I'll give it another shot, though.

That's (The Knick) cinemax and that's good as well.

And the only reason it's on Cinemax and not on HBO is because HBO told Soderbergh he'd have to wait 2-3 years to start because they were busy with other shyt and he was about to bounce completely until they scrambled and said "Cinemax is one of our sister channels, don't go, we'll let you do it now and put it on there".

Another case of HBO not knowing what's good and what isn't, and what's worth their time and what isn't.
