I literally watched 15 seconds of Vinyl, paused it, asked myself "Do I want to invest 10+ hours in 1970s New York and rock and roll from this perspective", then just deleted the shyt.

Especially knowing David Simon has something set around the same time coming, and he's so much better at writing about people and situations than almost anybody.

I feel bad for creators though, because HBO has been known to buy anything it thinks is good, sit on it for 3+ years, decide to look at it again, then figure they don't wanna do it, but you can't take it and pitch it anywhere else.

Plus, getting your shyt made doesn't even mean anything because they'll make all your eps and have you feeling like you made it then just can the shyt ie Codes of Conduct, Videosynchrazy, Brothers in Atlanta etc.

Did you notice STEVEN MCQUEEN'S CODES of CONDUCT show got scrapped after it got ordered to series?

They're fukking with Tier 1 filmmakers :francis:

This ain't the first time either. It's gonna get to point where guys like Fincher and McQueen will be apprehensive to work there. They've continually fukked over one of their best talents in David Milch as well.

People talk about how TV has become more attractive to top level film makers but you're not gonna get Hollywood studios straight up throw a David Fincher project in the garbage. Seems like a minefield working at HBO.

Amazon seem to embracing a lot more innovative ideas and directors now. HBO might well get left behind.

is why I ain't shedding no tears over the slow fall off of HBO (as the industry standard) they are getting super picky and unnecessarily cutthroat in what these choose to greenlit, fuk em

I'll be real. The Steve McQueen show, had an interesting premise but didn't seem like a TV series. So I understand why HBO didn't move forward.

What? AMAZON has a fukkload of money. They're starting increase budgets for projects. And Netflix spends money out the ass on their series. Have you seen their series? House of Cards, Narcos, The Get Down, etc. Netflix is now the 2nd bets destination to set up a series.

Yeah I feel you. They wanna make it seem like they're just picky and only want the best, but to me it smacks of a company who is starting to pick losers and are scrambling to keep up with what they think people will like.

I'm sure they thought Vinyl would be a smash, but really it's pretty niche. 18 year olds to about maybe 35, maybe even closer to 40, don't care about sex drugs and rock and roll, and as much as Marty is dope, his fans are fukking old.

I'll be real. The Steve McQueen show, had an interesting premise but didn't seem like a TV series. So I understand why HBO didn't move forward.

The show didn't interest me one bit to be honest, and neither is a lot HBO is making right now. They're starting to go from prestige to high-brow (or at least what they think is high-brow), and in doing so, they're making TV for upper middle class white people from NY and LA, and leaving behind the thing that made them dope - story.

One useless nikkas opinions, though :russ:

The McQueen show did just sound like Will Smith's Six Degrees of Separation. But I was hyped just off McQueen's involvement.

I think he has a show with BBC lined up though so we won't be starving too long.

Can yall imagine a Walking Dead if HBO had it, :ohlawd:
At the very least, you could say goodbye to the midseason break shyt.

It'd be a lot darker as well.
