Yeah I feel you. They wanna make it seem like they're just picky and only want the best, but to me it smacks of a company who is starting to pick losers and are scrambling to keep up with what they think people will like.

I'm sure they thought Vinyl would be a smash, but really it's pretty niche. 18 year olds to about maybe 35, maybe even closer to 40, don't care about sex drugs and rock and roll, and as much as Marty is dope, his fans are fukking old.

The show didn't interest me one bit to be honest, and neither is a lot HBO is making right now. They're starting to go from prestige to high-brow (or at least what they think is high-brow), and in doing so, they're making TV for upper middle class white people from NY and LA, and leaving behind the thing that made them dope - story.

One useless nikkas opinions, though :russ:
Word up. They seem like they are going to do a beginning of Hip Hop arc. But from some record label owned by some coked up Jews perspective?! Fukk outta here, no one into Hip Hip is interested in that. The Get Down got it right, cover the creators not the label.
In 2016 that shyt does not play.

I really cant see why Utopia needs a 100m budget. It should actually be pretty cheap.
Only way I can see that budget is if he wanted to get some top actors for like 90% of the roles AND he wanted to film it in some super high tec way or something. I imagine Rooney was playing Jessica.

Other than that, I can't see how the hell that was pose to cost $100M either.

Yeah that's insane. Its set in modern times, there's no huge set pieces, there's no need for extravagant set design. I get HBO wanting him off of this. Its a niche program that in the right hands could be made for a tenth of that.

HBO should also (and it seems like they are) reconsider being a place where any big name can just show up and get a blank a check.

Same. You should be able to cast Tom Cruise and Sandra Bullock in that shyt and not exceed $100 million. Fincher getting too big for his britches. shyt ain't some CGI fest, so why would it cost so much?

There were no big names in the cast besides Rooney Mara.

‘Utopia’ With David Fincher Dead At HBO As Actors Are Released; Here Is The Cast That Had Been Rehearsing For A Month

Fincher just shoots a million takes for everything which means a really long production schedule which causes the budget to balloon.

I still need to watch the 2nd season of Utopia :snoop:

HBO is definitely no longer the king when it comes to cutting edge drama series. They are still eating good off GOT now and will be for a few more years though, Silicon Valley is one of the funniest comedies on TV to me as well. Plus Leftovers season 2 was one of the most interesting, well acted shows of last year.

Westworld has me intrigued me as well, hopefully it turns out good. Also sorta interested in that Awkward Black Girl show.

Game of Thrones has been trash for the last 2 years btw. And now that they are off book I expect you all to agree with me soon. HBO is about to be looking funny in the light...
Netflix coming for that crown like a muhf*cka too
