About that 95M number for David's Utopia. Thought you just pulled it outta no where, but you right. HBO was willing to go up to 95M for it. One article even said 100M was the lowest David would go, which I took to mean he wanted more than 100M for it at some point.

At that point I would have to assume David just tried to get one over on the folks at HBO. Most those other shows you can see where the money would go sets for the era etc. But Utopia, man lol.

Can't find the article because it was quite a while ago but the number I remember Fincher wanting was 115M

As for True Blood, I've never seen it and it may have been cheaper than some of the bigger dramas but it was also legitimately a hit. A lot of people watched that show. Definitely more than Girls.

More to the point of the thread, HBO is severely fukking up not remaking "Utopia". It's like nothing else on TV. After Fincher told them he needed $100 mill they should've immediately replaced him and kept the ball rolling.

I'm assuming that Flynn and Fincher were a package deal and once he dropped out she did as well. Plus I'm sure some of those actors, especially Mara mainly signed on because of the Fincher pedigree.

I do hope and think that they will bring it back with someone else though. They clearly think highly of the source material.

the last time that worked was the movie Hyde. it was Vincent Chase's directorial debut and he was already $15 million over budget when he went to his homie and studio head Ari Gold to ask for $10 million more

Hyde went on to gross over $450 million worldwide and Johnny "Drama" Chase won a Golden Globe award for his performance

Utopia honestly might be in my top 3 in terms of greatest shows. Never seen anything remotely like it, just incredible.
