Wow they're blowing money like crazy at HBO. Doesn't Game Of Thrones cost like $10 million per episode? At least that show is a hit but blowing millions into the hundreds on unproven material is

they spent more on the first season of this then they did on first season of GOT by a good 30-40 million iirc.


I actually don't remember the last time i watched a show on HBO. maybe TD or Ballers.

I'm still upset about The Brink being cancelled. It was the best show that premiered last year on HBO. IMO. I got bored w ballers after 5 episodes.

HBO never keeps those type of comedies on tho. Bored to Death was genius too, but those type of shows aren't broad enough I guess.

That 60M figure for Season 1 of GoT just shows how much the game has changed, even in just 5 years. Some numbers to give Vinyl's budget some context:

Westworld's budget is 88M
Marco Polo's was 100M
Netflix's not yet released "The Crown" is 150M
And HBO was willing to go as high as 95M for the first season of Utopia.

That's why Girls will get 6 seasons. It's cheap as fukk to make.

I fukk with vinyl. I watched both episodes so far and I'm looking forward to the episode tomorrow. They did make it seem corny with all the hype they put behind it with the debauchery filled trailers and shyt but it's tight. I fukk with it.

I don't know why they thought Vinyl would be a success. Looked like shyt to me from the get go. Guess they thought Empire with white people would be a can't miss.

I imagine that's why True Blood got so many seasons as well, cheap as hell.

About that 95M number for David's Utopia. Thought you just pulled it outta no where, but you right. HBO was willing to go up to 95M for it. One article even said 100M was the lowest David would go, which I took to mean he wanted more than 100M for it at some point.

At that point I would have to assume David just tried to get one over on the folks at HBO. Most those other shows you can see where the money would go sets for the era etc. But Utopia, man lol.
