The beautiful thing with Not Like Us is that no matter how hard you try to re-write history, the shyt was so big that everyone remembers the moment it dropped.

-Against the actual industry, because Drake was botting on twitter, had podcasters on payroll and magazines even wrote (sources are there) that Drake was probably gonna win no matter what;
-Without any promotion;
-Had the whole world dance and sing that track literally MINUTES after it was released.

Even though I agree they started pushing it later on, that shyt was 100% organic upon release, and it's initial impact was undeniable.
You nailed it. Not Like Us impact is organic, and probably the diss record with the biggest organic impact to this day :manny:

Not Like Us gotta be the goat diss track of all time, right? It dropped on May 2024 and is still the #1 song, one of the biggest songs in streaming history and getting played everywhere… clubs, global sporting events, even political rallies. Most diss tracks stay in hiphop circles, but this one became a global anthem. It even won 5 Grammys, which never happens with battle tracks. The song was so massive that it’s a big reason Kendrick got to perform at the Super Bowl. This diss song became a global moment… something that’s never happened before. It’s truly unprecedented. Drake can’t escape the anthem.
Yes. easily now.

Well then we gotta remove ether from the all time greats as well. Cause it didn't do a damn thing to jays popularity. He still continued to outsell everybody and then literally became nas's boss :huhldup:

Did hit em up hurt bigs popularity?....Did no Vaseline hurt dre's popularity?.....when you already have a massive core fanbase, diss tracks aren't gonna make them all turn on you. Doesn't matter how scathing they are. As you can see from all the drake dikk suckers on here like @iliketurtles, the fans of a losing rapper will typically just stay in denial and continue sucking that dikk.

Diss tracks should be judged based on the quality and cultural impact they had. Not necessarily on how many fans a rapper lost because of them.

Facts don't forget Dre got dissed by Eazy E too

yes, easily too and I say this as a hardcore Nas fan. NLU ticks all the boxes by orders of magnitudes better than any other diss.

bars check (though the bars are the weakest aspect of the song)
viciousness/disrespect? check
mainstream appeal? check
cultural impact? check check check

I will say though, out of the whole beef my fav song is actually Euphoria

I feel like it’s different with Drake and this diss

Saying you are ugly and taking karate classes, or I fukked your girl is one thing

Calling someone a pedo, destroying their brand and trying to end their career is another.

The purpose of this diss is solely to fukk up Drake’s life and knock him off the top. Beef is different now because of the social media era. I think we need to see the lasting impacts of this one before it can be judged.

Jay and Nas were both trying to end each other’s careers make no mistake about it.

“Career’s come to an end/its only so long fake thugs can pretend”

“Feel these hot rocks fellas/put you in a dry spot fellas/in a pine box with 9 shots from my glock fellas”

Drake botting couldn't even prevent Not Like US from becoming a smash it :whew:

It's between Not Like Us and Ether imo and I don't give a fukk about sales and impact. I only care about the actual songs. Grats to NLU for having that never heard before impact, and grats to Ether for being included in the dictionary but I don't care about none of that.

Not Like Us is the smartest and funniest diss song I've ever heard and Ether is the most vicious diss track I've ever heard.

Kendrick's ability to incorporate satir and humor in his songs (with his writing, intonation and performance) is a thing of beauty, dude smartly turned Drake into a laughing stock and that is one of the most damaging things that could ever happen to somebody. I could see Kendrick having a one man show tbh.
Kendrick is the goat in that regard :wow:

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
No contest, it was even performed at the Superbowl

:mjlol:
What rapper has performed the Super Bowl before Jay swooped in? shyt Hit Em Up dropped the year of the 3rd halftime show EVER. And let’s get it straight. None of them other diss COULD be performed at the Super Bowl. That’s how lethal and graphic they were. Yall need to stop with this Super Bowl shyt. That’s all due to circumstance and it’s not fair to past rappers. If Jay wasn’t involved with Super Bowl ain’t no rapper performing for that shyt outside or Eminem maybe.

And anybody that tells you otherwise is either a Drake fan or somebody who feels Kendrick is overrated and is just annoyed of his praise.

This is dumb logic. Maybe some of us aren't prisoners of the moment. A lot of you love jumping the shark and wanting everything to be GOAT level just because. You're comparing a diss song that's been out less than a year to those that are at least over 2 decades old, which speaks to how ridiculous of a comparison it is. Let it breathe.
