Considering the goal of a diss track is to humiliate your opponent, Not Like Us is absolutely #1 or at the very least in that goat discussion. it had one of the biggest impacts, not just for a diss but for a rap song period and got the dude to file a lawsuit. The damage it has done was very visible, and shyt has probably generated some of the catchiest quotables ever.

We saw the organic impact it had immediately. As soon as it dropped, Drake was already on the phone with his lawyers as people instantly started singing that song everywhere. It was even released for free the first couple of days.

One of the first times a song became instantly impactful before it even started trending on social media. shyt was already viral in the steets and club before publications even wrote the first article about its release.

No question.

DO U NOT KNOW WHAT HIT EM UP DID??

The real question is; will a diss song ever surpass Not Like Us? doubt it, most damaging diss song ever witnessed and shyt was all organic until the label realized it was already a certified hit :whew:

No promotion either, just a link in a tweet :wow:
To top NLU, so many factors would have to come into play. They’d have to be at the top of their game at the very least.

But I just can’t see another artist like Drake go down that same path or one remotely close to it.

It’s just not worth it. Crodie asked to get publicly lynched.

I guess to top NLU, someone would have to commit that because of the track.

One of the first time a song become instantly impactful before it even become a trend on social media.
It trended on social media literally hours after shyt was already going viral in the streets and in clubs.
It INSTANTLY was getting played in the clubs when it dropped. DJ’s already had it after the button was pushed. Yall gotta remember it was Cinco De Mayo weekend so EVERYBODY was outside.

:mjlol:

“Hit Em Up” literally lead to the death of Biggie and Pac. But “Not Like Us” might just be 1B. The impact of this record is something i have never seen before. And anybody that tells you otherwise is either a Drake fan or somebody who feels Kendrick is overrated and is just annoyed of his praise.

This is a once in a generation record.

All aspects of life is blasting this record to the point where it’s IMPOSSIBLE to avoid it.

THATS what pisses Drake off the most…he can’t escape this at all.

What certified this as the GOAT diss track was when Drake took his label to court. Something that has NEVER happened in hip-hop..

It’s cemented in history.

What y'all don't want to hear is Not Like Us was pushed by the industry and didn't have an organic impact

Ether was organic & shocked ppl in real time...literally left ppl speechless when they heard it

Imagine walking to school on a cold december day and hearing Ether be played

Nas dropped it on Jigga's bday...and it reclaimed Nas position as the best lyricist in rap

Don't even compare the competitive landscape of 2001 rap (Nas, Jigga, Kiss, Beans, Scarface, 3 stacks, X, Busta, Ghostface, Fab, Ja, Busta, Nore, Luda, etc...) to the barren landscape of 2024 rap

Ether is the most lethal diss in rap history

Not Like Us was a catchy song that was pushed by Lucien Grange and the powers that be in order to elevate Kendrick and diminish Drake
The opponent also matters

At the end of the day Drake is a culture vulture white boy who has already been exposed in multiple ways and isn’t taken seriously by anyone at all. Not even by other white boys

Meanwhile Jay and Biggie are universally in most people’s top 5

Drake getting the feds involved kind of separates his L from other rappers L's.

BUT Cube/Nas/Pac went against far more lethal adversaries. I think Cube is probably the closest comparison considering the nonwriting of the NWA crew (except for Ren) and the obvious Jew influence. Shyt Drake's team did what Jerry Heller wanted to do.

The Nas/Jay beef is comparable in the sense that Jay was bigger than Nas, but I do think we're underestimating how big the machine behind Kendrick (/INTERSCOPE) is. So I think Nas relatively speaking Nas victory was a bigger upset. I also think we're OVERESTIMATING Drake's power in the industry, sure he had some YouTubers and media outlets but if anything was made clear after this battle it's this - a lot of people in power seem to really hate Drake and were just waiting for the right moment to strike.

Pac and Big was just some deeper shyt that we still seem to be not fully in the loop of.

What Kendrick did is huge and it might go down as the most memorable takedown because of the era we're in, but that's not fair to the OG's. I would put it #4 for now. I don't think HIT EM UP was a better diss record perse, but the impact it had was (tragically) so massive.

Ether and No Vaseline are, imo, better by any metric that matters for a diss record.
