1.6% Neanderthal.

I did this when they had it free for African-Americans.

My 23andMe results were: 81.4% African, 16% European, 1.2% Asian & Native American and 1.3% Unassigned.

I sent my results to Dr. McDonald. My results from him were: 81.5% West African (Yoruba), 17.5% European (English), and 1% Native American.

Most if not all of my European came from my dad side (my mom is dark skinned). I was surprised by the results since I looked up birth and death certificates before this. All of them said either: Black, Negro or Indian. And all the Indian was on my dads side. I figured that's where his lighter complexion came from. I'm guessing he figured the same thing. Of course I knew black female slaves were raped but since I saw birth & death certificates of direct ancestors with Indian on my dad's side, I thought the Indian would be alot higher.

He was going to take the test but when I showed him my results he looked disappointed. That was a year ago, he still hasn't took the test.

ya moms though she was indian as in red dot or feather?

none of that is a reason not to do it, people should still get it and wait over time as results get better

23and me just recently started breaking down europe into countries, they didnt do that 2 years ago when i did it, africa is just behind but eventually it should come around

but overall the more black people do it whether african or african american you are adding to the database which is a good thing

that's all true, but the way these services are advertised, the public is getting a different idea of what they are being sold. ethically, they need to tell people what you just said when they promote these things.

by 1.5 percent which is more than the typical African descent. Smh.
I also found out that I have large amount of white blood in me from the I1* is a subgroup of I1. Kind of shocking because I am African American.

I am related to Warren Buffet/Jimmy Buffet and Leo Tolstoy.

Maternal line is L3b1b is a subgroup of L3b which is West African.

Very Shocked by my results.

The majority of people in the Americas have mixed genetics regardless of their phenotypes (physical appearance)...

The darkest looking African-American is probably more genetically white than a light skinned Motherland African...

That is true and I thought it would had shown in my maternal line but it didn't. I am only 2 percent Indian when my Grand grandfather was pure indian.

this is a bit out of my depth, but i will give it a shot, LOL

much like a woman on maury povich, we only know who the father is if the mother is honest and not too slutty. barring that, we have to bring every dude she spent more than 5 minutes alone with into the studio for testing. our ancestry is like that x100.

we need more people from the "old world" to be in the databse so we can compare every change in our y chromosome to other men's dna. africa is not heavily tested, so the database is very weak (all ethnicities have weak samples, but africa is even less sampled)

africans are older than everybody else, which means we have more history of more men adding changes to their y chromosome, so we need even more samples than other groups to apporach the same level of specificity.

the ancestry reports that call out specific african groups are overblown and will get revised over time as the sample situation gets better. everbody's dna analysis will be improving over time, so it is just a matter of fact that the ancestry results are nothing to get excited about right now.

I believe when the site first came out they were wanting people of African descent or Africans in general to submit their dna for this very reason. They were a couple of years ago offer it free some way to people of African descent.

none of that is a reason not to do it, people should still get it and wait over time as results get better

Yeah and they constantly add different things to their database rather it is health related or DNA. I think the site is amazing and everyone when they have the chance sign up for it.

Subs for that McDonald dude. I as going to do this a few years back but the $300 tag had me :whoa: now it's only $100 so I'll try to do this with my parents, does this work for females?

Autosomal DNA comes from all your grandparents, regardless of gender. The only difference is you will get a female haplogroup (direct female line) if you're a woman, but men get a male and female haplogroup because they have both, whereas a woman has no Y. Everyone gets the same type of results, otherwise. You can have a father/brother/paternal uncle tested to get the Y haplogroup.

If you test one or both parents, they can tell you (to some degree) which side which ancestry comes from and which cousins you share with a parent.

I believe the DNA testing is different from Females. I believe they can't get the father DNA or some crap.

nah, for the individual its the same whether its male or female

but the female/male issue comes up because they give you your maternal line (haplogroup) which traces all your female lineage only and the paternal line (haplogroup) which gives your male lineage only

the blindspot come from the fact that you can't see your father's mother (paternal grandmother) line because your father's line only shows males, and you cant see you're mother's father (maternal grandfather) becuase your maternal line only shows female

so in other words you have 4 different haplo groups from your 4 grand parents, but you can only see 2 of them by looking at your dna, you can only see all 4 of your haplogroups if your parents also take the test

Ahh makes sense. I notice a lot of times you are trying to add up the relations majority of the time with the people.
