Democrats are addicted to powerlessness. They had control of the Presidency and both branches of Congress 4 years ago - same as Trump has - and you're in here carrying water for losers.

I actually agree with you on both points here. It's not just Democrats = Bad. It's that they're bad in a specific way that blinds them to the paths needed to become better. The attitude displayed in here - that it's the voters who are at fault for not accepting the Democrats as their lord and savior - belies a fundamental misunderstanding of electoral politics and neuters any ability to actually grow.

And yes, it's structurally easier for Republicans to destroy shyt, but that doesn't absolve the Democrats of their responsibility to protect society. There are deep-seated faults in the national character due to this country's foundation myths and bipartisan ideological orientation. In order to save whatever is worthwhile in American society, the neoliberal fantasy needs to be rejected and replaced with an ideology that is fervently dedicated to the public good. An ideology that isn't inherently contemptuous of democracy or capitulates when confronted with critical contradictions.

I think if the takeaway is simply that we lost because there is a determinatively large group of people in America who are irredeemably racist then there's really no point to supporting any political efforts, and our time would best be spent focusing on sports and movies. It's a recipe for political defeatism. There's no prescription for hope or action down that road. I don't even see the Liberals promoting this idea proposing efforts to un-racist the population, they're just saying it to offload any responsibility for why their program lost. Funny enough, I saw this same defeatist mentality coming out of much of Bernie-world after he lost the primary. A lot of leftists said the Democratic Party is irredeemably committed to a failing neoliberal ideology and checked out of engaging with the party because they saw electoral politics as a dead end. It's the same easy button out of self-reflection on why you lost and what needs to be done to win.

I don't know, maybe the Libs are right that it's not their weak tea policies, it's that the country is simply too racist to elect a black Democrat President. Or maybe the Bernie-busters are right that the Democratic Party cannot be reformed out of its death spiral ideology to take the mantle of an actually virtuous political program. Both lead to the same outcome; uselessly gawking as the right takes power.
