Come to think of it, I did have several female cousins that retired before 65. They all had government jobs as well. But they were married. The cousin that was in my high school class, had 40 years. She passed from cancer in 2020. I assume she was planning to retire soon. She was single, so I guess that's why she wasn't retired. Plus she was divorced, and living in an apartment. All my life, I've noticed that most of my female cousins had some kind of career, mostly government.Pretty much my whole family but they all had government jobs. I see what you're saying though...
But the males always struggled, and I have about 80 cousins on one side, with 69 that were in or close to my generation. I can think of only two of the males who retired before 65, but they were married as well. The men who were my age or older, I'm afraid one too many of them were deceased before 65...some before 60, like two of my brothers. My oldest male cousin did well, and retired a long time ago. He's been married since 1968. There may be more, but I can only think of two or three male cousins, with college degrees, and government careers. One of those cousins had close to 30 years, but his wife recently got a divorce after all these years, and took half of his retirement.
Were any of your family members who retired before 65, males, and living on their own in at least an apartment. When I bring this question to the hood, all I can say is, it's a hot mess.
