This dev put out what seems to be a mid ass game, and played himself by openly admitting that he hoped he could still be able to fool people into throwing down $30 with pre release promo fukkery.
Also, a game costing you nothing other than bandwidth and time to download really does put the pressure on the dev to really grab you with the first few hours, because bushing the game doesn't mean you blew any money. I've definitely played a few games I downloaded or streamed via GamePass, probably judged as mid a little too quickly, and then moved on to something else.
