This isn't 100% true.
There are companies out there that have degree requirements for some positions. They don't care that you have 4 years of work experience with no degree. If you don't have a degree, they aren't going to put you into their management track program which is to start off as an assistant manager and being a protege under a mentor, i.e. higher level manager. Now, you aren't completely SOL with four years of work experience, but it takes way longer to move up the ladder, so it's going to suck when Bo-bo, the college graduate clown, surpasses you on the corporate ladder climbing race. You can make it to the top, but you have to be in it for the extra long haul.
Shoot happened exactly at the company I work at. You can get your foot in the door with work experience but over time you need to have the education to back that ish up.

Coli.
OP has a point. Coming from a guy who has a bachelors and masters Degree college is a waste of time, except in one instance. If you need the degree in order to get a license or certification to practice doing something then you absolutely must have a college education. So for example you need it to be a lawyer, or a doctor or even a nurse. Most other things it's a waste especially business related fields. Those 4 years in college you could have worked for somebody getting 4 years of relatable real experience , perhaps even became a manager and supervisor. College does not prove anything in the work field..half the thing you learn in college you forget or never use. I rather work for a company for 4 years , get experience learning office politics and excel spread sheets and have no debt than go graduate with a business degree and 40k in loans and no experience hoping somebody will take a chance on me to only start work making less than the person that went the other route.
:ehh: First good post i seen from you but :pacspit: cac

we're getting to the point where basically a bachelors isn't enough and a masters is what a bachelors used to be. minus the cost.

Stem majors still have an advantage but Biology is like the lowest stem. Biology is like a regular major

At this point, you better off making your own business and passing down wealth. The concept of a job is worthless in the 21st century since automation and insane competition is around.

I partially disagree, a company can only train you for the work that they do. Uni/college gives you an educational base for any job that you choose to do. There are ways that people can cut down on their debt before college, during college and after college. People dont plan appropriately and then complain.

Most people who do not have well off parents cannot afford to work for free. There are lots of jobs that I would love to do for the experience but I just can't.

I need to earn an income.
Parents are the best asset obviously but you can work whatever and still intern, or volunteer, obviously depending on what you're trying to do. Thing is, since you're working for free they are usually going to be much more open to understanding your personal situation and arranging your schedule around that. I know guys who used to only volunteer on weekends and stuff. Or whatever hours they could when they weren't at work. People are so much more willing to help you when you're doing paid work for nothing, but I get you I'm sure it's different everywhere.

True. The job I am doing just tires me the heck out. And some volunteer work feels exactly like work but without pay.

Basically. I'll listen to the countless number of businessmen who say ownership is the path to wealth creation over the Coli brethen who're going to weather the next 50 years hoping they make enough for retirement.

Computers advanced to the point where human effort is no longer needed. There are cars that drive themselves.
How does that pertain to people? I keep seeing many people on here talk about automation this and that when the technology is no where near finalized, much-less ready for a mainstream rollout. I hope you don't believe that computers can actually replace humans. :childplease: If so, maybe you should read why computers were developed in the first place.

Next 20 years, most jobs are going to disappear thanks to technology outperforming humans. Soon the people chasing jobs are going to die.

If I didn't go into medicine, I would have skipped college completely and went Air Force directly after high school and didy 20+ years (which was my OG plan in the first place.)
Would have retired at 38 and collected a check for life and ventured into another field entirely.
My folks put me on game early.
I feel for some of my peers that graduated with me. Looking at some of their Facebook pages is depressing.
:mjcry:
College is certainly what you make of it, though.
I just don't think a lot of kids who are bright eyed & bushy tailed freshman right now understand the significance of that.

In Japan, there are factories that stopped using humans 15 years ago.

If you want to take that chance by chasing jobs, then go ahead. :sas2:

Of course automation is useful in certain aspects, but you can't automate everything. But keep reading those articles, breh. I'm sure everyone would be better off if we all just decided to create businesses.
