How does that pertain to people? I keep seeing many people on here talk about automation this and that when the technology is no where near finalized, much-less ready for a mainstream rollout. I hope you don't believe that computers can actually replace humans. :childplease: If so, maybe you should read why computers were developed in the first place.
It's funny that you think they don't.

What's at work here is an increase in efficiency, not actual robots replacing humans

using a computer, 1 human can do the work that it used to take 200 humans to do. Multiply that by just 10 and that's 2000 jobs that won't be needed anymore. Not temporarily, they've been replaced forever. Starts to add up quickly

edit fukk what i just said i can't read. It still true though.:sas1:

Even STEM majors are beginning to be a waste, like biology
You can't really do anything with a Science or Math degree but teach or do research and grad school and all that. Might as well just change it to Technology , Engineering , and Medicine

I always love seeing you Coli brehs take some of the most complicated problems and [attempt to] break them down. :pachaha:I'll play along. What sector/industry would those 2000 jobs come from and, specifically, what would those computers do?

If I didn't go into medicine, I would have skipped college completely and went Air Force directly after high school and didy 20+ years (which was my OG plan in the first place.)
Would have retired at 38 and collected a check for life and ventured into another field entirely.
My folks put me on game early.
I feel for some of my peers that graduated with me. Looking at some of their Facebook pages is depressing.
:mjcry:
College is certainly what you make of it, though.
I just don't think a lot of kids who are bright eyed & bushy tailed freshman right now understand the significance of that.
Word my Dad was a Navy doctor and used to tell us about the people that went in early and basically started getting a retirement check at age 38-40 and THEN got a another job government job with their Veterans Preference so basically getting two checks until they decided to retire from the second job :wow:.

Makes you envy it at times going through years of schooling (loans) but for certain jobs there's no way around college.

He meant that the tools and computers are becoming simpler to handle and more efficient. Even TurboTax is taking away work from accountants.

Jobs will be a thing of a few people in another 30 years. Let them basic income checks come in. :blessed:

You're stupid if you think you're about to challenge the computer guy on computers

but okay ill give you the first thing that came to my mind. Typists. Used to be an actual job. Where you could work go home and support your family off it and shyt but word processing in the 80's came out and killed that. That' s 100,000+ jobs are lost that won't ever be back. Not an insignificant number. There are many examples, and is mostly jobs where, people would be paid to do only 1 thing but it needed to be done right. Computers come along, do them right, and do them FAST. Efficiency

Uber is doing this to taxi services.

Now pipe down

Why 30 years? Why not 20, 25, 35 or 40 years? Are you part of a company whose goal is to see significant automatic by the next 30 years? Otherwise, from where did you get that value? Also, what type of jobs specifically? Sanitation, cashier (one that is active being targeted, I'll admit that), sales associates, office jobs? Please specify.

I would explain the difference, but it's clear you want to be right, so, never mind.

School has always been for education first . You should major in something you have a passion for. Not just for the job opportunities.

shyt, I have no reason to go back to school and I'm planning on finishing my CS degree or go back and major in math.

Yeah but it's not like NO ONE knew that eventually typing on a fukking typewriter would be a thing of the past...I mean C'mon making corrections on that hoe was damn near impossible. Loading the paper straight and all that LMAO, plus the bytch was heavy.

Another thing people need to do is keep up with the changes in relation to their careers and strive to keep their skill set modern. That way when they ship your old ass job out the door at least you have the knowledge of what's available. Even if they automate a lot of things that people do manually, they still need people to work the automation technology. They need people to manage the projects that modernize old technology. There is a job available in that field, just may not be what you were doing. Like I said to someone earlier, search for jobs by the technologies/software they use, not the actual duties themselves.

START YOUR OWN BUSINESS!! Duh. I do love me some coli sometimes.

You know what's funny about the COLI. They stay talking about STEM related careers are going down the toilet due to automation, competition , global warming , gas prices , Cavs losing the championship.

But through all this, starting your own business and making a ton of money is suppose to be easier? Everytime they talk this starting your own business they only bring up the positive sides and only the negative sides of working for somebody else. Gotta love it.

Well that was sort of my original point. Increase in efficiency. Literally 1 program had the effect of making 200,000 jobs obsolete. Millions of jobs worldwide. That's real power Look, I'm not saying it's going to happen to every job. but when it comes down to the last 20 - 30 years, you're talking about a handful of software applications, changing a bulk of the job sector. I hear from old heads all the time how back then you could basically expect to a find job whenever you wanted. It used to be the case that every citizen in a small town could be employed by the same company because there were just so many opportunities for work available back then, that computers ate up today. I guess the point was, someone said that it can't happen like that. But it totally can and actually the only real bad thing about it, is that it happens so quickly that the job market doesn't have time to replenish those jobs as quickly so people panic. But you have to wonder, when guys like Bill Gates and Larry Ellison just ripping off billions of personal wealth from their companies, that money ain't coming from nowhere. I assume that kind of wealth is created when people elsewhere lose their careers over your technology. lol
