So album sales dictate what's played on the radio, featured on TV shows and in movies, who gets to perform at awards shows, who get the magazine features etc? Rose tinted glasses.

Digital sales are the same as physical sales, maybe even more impressive since people don't receive anything physical. If you're referring to streaming, then no it doesn't count that because she held the album back from all streaming services, which probably contributed to the sales at least a little bit, anyone who wanted to hear the album had to buy it instead of going on Spotify or whatever and just streaming it.

They completely stopped playing Jill Scott style (r&b soul) from black artist on mainstream radio, created a void for that kind of music then rolled out Adele to fill the void. Now the black artist who originated and perfected the style she is singing in cannot even get on period.
Tyrese puts out an album of the year candidate yet can barely get play yet Sam Smith selling millions. Jill Scott, Angie Stone etc are on milk cartons when it comes to the mainstream yet Adele breaking records. Badu is reduced to dropping fukking mixtapes
