That scale of a game being completely updated to modern standards would take far too long to develop
This is total bullshyt, plenty of modern games have been of even greater scale than it would take to do FF7 proper.
What information implied that there would be no overworld or towns and play like FFXIII?

I'm not defending anything. I'm pointing out that we don't know how the game will be layed out to jump towards conclusions like this.

being episodic makes having a real overworld not likely. And going by their language of 'with each entry providing its own unique experience' it sounds like they are trying to make each a standalone project, which is again adverse to the style of game the last one was. Also the level in the trailer is more akin to the corridor levels of 13 than the large explorable areas of 15

Are you fukking serious :why:
This ain't Fallout 4 where there aren't any huge cut scenes and most of the game is either exploring a wide open area or characters standing in place going through stock animations with recorded dialog. Final Fantasy games are among the best looking of their console generations people expect a certain level of polish from these games. We're talking an RPG where the main story is 60 or so hours alone not including sidequests.

Think about how many unique assets that are in FFVII. Think about the world map. Think about all the set pieces. Now think about all of that being developed with modern standards and details.

These people thing because they can spend 100 hours playing a WRPG that those games are on the same scale as a Final Fantasy 7. The main campaigns of those games are usually 15 hours tops and the cut scenes are a couple characters standing in place with minimal canned animations while you navigate through a dialog tree. Much of the exploration is spent in wide open fields.

Start naming them. Games with 60ish hour main stories on the scale of Final Fantasy 7.
FF7 main story was not 60ish hours. The majority of that time is spent reading dialogs, grinding, and exploring.

other rpjs that have had a nice story with cutscenes ect. Ni no Kuni, Lost odyssey, Mass effect, even ff13 and im sure there's more

Point is, it can be done, anyone saying otherwise is just making excuses.

you really think they went from saying. 'We cant make one game" to 'were gonna make 3 full games"? :stopitslime:

That's most of the cuts scenes in ff7. sitting and reading dialog.

Not to mention WRPGS being being rife with reused assets. Most of the dungeons and caves look the same.

as soon as I read the news, I'm pretty sure I heard the simultaneous moan world wide.

It's pretty crazy how with still very little info, everyone went from this (with still very few details)

:francis:.

Each time is a result of jumping to conclusions. I'm sure these are the same guys who were willing to shell out hundreds for a collectors edition, collectors ps4, the whole nine. I'm still thankful Based Square. As long as I get the world map, feed me

The first 1/2 of Dragon Age takes longer to complete than the entirety of FF7. Lots of cutscenes and complex animations in that game. If you really think updating source material with 40 hours of content is going to result in THREE episodes you are on wild drugs. Final Fantasy 7 isn't "wide" open chock full of content and a ton of sidequests. Even with a massive graphics overhaul it isn't going to be some 100 gig monster. 60 hours? :mjlol: Even the most technical of PS4 and Xbox games haven't been on the scale of what you're dreaming. The only way is if Square is adding in material that's on the size of another 2 games.

What 'unique assets' in FF7 are taking up space of the magnitude that are gigs worth of data? There is nothing in FF7 that is going to take up that much space. The game is not long at all, especially compared to modern RPG standards. The biggest content on games are typically the engines, textures, and models. CGI and videos are next in line and none of that is approaching 25 gigs on current games. If the original FF7 was 40-60 hours of content then what we'd be getting is a ton of movies and cutscenes and little gameplay. That's the only other way they'd fill out 75 or 150 gigs worth of content short of making new games' worth of material. The OG FF7 having 3 discs has nothing to do with it.

because that's game isn't modern. FF7 was polygonal characters over pre-rendered backgrounds. For them to make that modern they have to go through and create all those environments in real time. Make the cut scenes more than just a polygonal character standing still over what amounts to a still picture. They can't stitch that stuff together from recycled assets like these WRPGs can. People are gonna expect the level of detail from that trailer through the whole game.
