Games, especially AAA are now worldwide commodities. Nobody is “building their own” this is a game that’s funded by an American company, made by a japanese developer and set in Medieval europe.

It’s not too much to ask to have some black folks involved in the game somewhere.
Yea because they already built it

If that were the case black people would have a lot to show for a lot

This goes back to my original post in here that there's TOO much begging for inclusion and NOT ENOUGH building of our own. This is indisputable. There's an enormous void in the black community when it comes to fantasy and sci Fi. Black folks love the shyt

Now what has changed in recent years, notably the last decade, is black women are writing a LOT of fantasy novels, especially in the Harry Potter vein. They're telling the stories but then there's an issue of us not having the mediums to adapt these stories into games and movies.

So while we're making strides in the storytelling aspect we still got a long way to go in building infrastructure which is what bothers me so much about constant " :to: but where the black people" complaints
:yeshrug: I agree…like I said before I’m not mad. At the black people asking for representation. In all forms of media. But it does get embarrassing sometimes. They did this with The Witcher, GOT, Smash Bros, Scorsese’s movies, and now with Final Fantasy/DBZ. I can’t lie…I’m lowkey mad. That SF6 main character isn’t black. Sean should’ve been in Luke’s place. From a story standpoint and theme. But it is what it is. We need more black people. In theses movie and gaming studios. We need our own franchises and characters.

Witcher and GOT got a lot better. Progress is made when people push for it

I agree. But the black community as a whole really ain't checking for these types of fantastical mediums. A lot of us like it but even more of us don't care for it. I'm sure there's tons of black people out here who have great ideas for things, but it never takes off because of no funding or no interest in thus there's no incentive to really pursue it
I have to disagree because black people check a lot of stuff like anime, game of thrones, harry potter, comics, Star Wars, etc.

I think the major issue is black creators face major roadblocks of execs not greenlighting black projects unless it's black trauma porn. Rarely we get a chance to create something outside of that, so opportunities aren't there. Also, I imagine the video game industry is much worse than Hollywood in that regard. I can only think of one black video game director in recent times and that was Dinga Bakaba with Deathloop.

Anyways, it's way too difficult for black creators to get their ideas generated in most mediums, especially in video game industry. I think only option is through indie and even then very hard to secure a budget to create content. Interest is there, but we just don't have the influence and funds to make it happen, so we have to rely on inclusion

Nice, didn't know about him:handshake:

I think in video game industry we need to get lucky and get guys like them get chances to direct projects. However, even then they may not get the same recognition as others, but we need more in higher roles in the industry to get our stories told.

Yeah, essentially the best way to go about is the Coogler, Peele effect, get them to direct games support them and have them be successful so when they get their next project they get to hire who they want

It's tricky because we've seen black investors invest in stuff like esports which can earn you a quick buck. However, I don't think they're willing to take a risk to make a video game that takes years to make and the return is volatile.

I think the issue is being a video game developer is tough because you have to have thick skin. Then getting the greenlight for a project is extremely hard and it's just a major risk to make a game since the cost is expensive and you need a lot of luck to get success. Anyways, I think our major route is what Gizmo says here

Black people would have to secure funding from these same cacs y’all say people are begging right now :stopitslime:

Alternatives like crowdfunding exist, even if you had to rely on a white publisher or parent company it would be a much better situation than we have now and could grow into true independence like the music industry.

Sounds like an argument for getting into publishing/financing anything successful, then growing to a point where to can make these types of decisions, less Coogler more McQueen. Just a thought.

I really didn’t know people cared that much to have black characters in final fantasy or any other such game it doesn’t make sense to have many black characters in games centered in Asia or Europe so I don’t understand the outrage.

Honestly if people want more black people in games then more black people have to get into game development and make games targeted towards black representation.

Crying about Asians and Whites making games that mostly feature themselves is such a crybaby look and does nothing in the grand scheme.

Either way I expect if there’s gonna be a surge of black representation in video games it’s gonna be through western publishers which is why I’m glad Japan isn’t the center point in of gaming anymore.

Capcom, Bandai, Nintendo, Konami etc will never have a black protagonist starring in their games.

That’s why forspoken was a big deal but cats couldn’t wait to shyt on it anyway even if there was some bs behind the scenes. People never think bigger picture

Yes you are absolutely right but it doesnt hurt to try to have these black driven game projects platformed or exposed to legit high investors somewhere. :patrice: im still working out the logistics in my brain...

AAA games takes millions of dollars and hundreds even thousands of developers. There’s no such thing as “build your own” when it comes to a product of that scale. Even Square Enix has to secure outside funding and development support for their games.

There are lots of black game developers moving their way up. We can support them by advocating publishers give them a chance in leading creative rolls :comeon:
