I have a cousin, I don't know what agency she's with, but she said she was 7 years short of qualifying for the buyout. I guess that means she have 23 years in, even though I thought she had more. Of course she's very concerned as well. Just this summer, I was telling her to stay to 62 if she could, and get that 1.1 multiplier. I told her too, that it would be a 10% raise for the rest of her life. But I also told her, if it got too crazy in her work place, then to get out of there. I remembered towards the end of my job, they had me so worried that I was beginning to have brain and heart spasms. Anyway, at the time, I thought my cousin had 30 years in, but didn't have the age.

She never saw this coming, not this soon anyway. She just got a promotion, and I think it was a GS 14. But right now, it's the people on probation, who are the easy targets. The people who are vested in their careers, like you and her, are way more protected.

I just hit 5 years. Shyt. A GS 14?!?!?! that is so fukked up. I plan on staying till 63 so I can get 30 years and my 1.1 multiplier. My component only got rid of DEI so far, so we will see.

I was given some false information on my cousin's status. It turns out she has over 30 years in, like I thought. However, she has 7 years left before her ERA. So she did qualify for the VERA. But she probably wants to stay until 62 after talking to me, or at least until her ERA, or continue until she could at least withdraw from her TSP. She's still raising two minors.

By the way things are unfolding, it seems like Trump will have a hard time firing employees not on probation. And if he does, they'll probably get their jobs right back.

I also misspoke about federal employees with 20 - 29 years in. As you know, if they were at least 50, with at least 20 years in, they qualified for the VERA. And if they had at least 25, they qualified for the VERA at any age. Even though you have 5 years, you still have options.

Allegedly, thats supposed to go down today. Most of the Defense folks I know are on pins and needles

That's the same thing I heard. Allegedly DOD has 60K probationary employees and most live in the DC area. SIXTY THOUSAND!

That will cripple this area if true

Not to go too far off topic, but keep a prayer out for the brothers and sister down here in the ATL too. Although they don't have as many federal workers as the DMV, they have a pretty nice size federal work base down here. That's was one of the main reasons I relocated to the ATL, just in case I ever needed to get back in the government.

I see more brothers walking around here looking a little distressed, and I'm not just talking about pookie and ray ray. I don't think it was this bad in 2008. I'm just tryna stay out of people's way right now.
