When I went through Federal contractor layoffs during sequestration. It seemed like they literally just pulled names out a fukking hat. It made zero sense and crippled all kinds of projects. This might actually be worse than sequestration budget cuts. Because you got a week or two to try and get picked up by another contract. It is self defeating from a business standpoint, because they are your cheapest employees and they are usually younger and will be there the longest. Even if some left later on, you could replace them with younger new probationary employees.
If real business men and accountants were handling the downsizing they would sweeten the retirement pot and push out a high number of long serving middle and upper managers, because they are older employees and higher earners.
