Every time an ignorant person says bicycling and public transit would never work in America like it does in Europe…

Breh, this discussion isn't for people who live outside of cities. Nobody is arguing for a subway tunnel to be built under your farm.
A lot of people work in cities though. Moreover, they travel to cities from said farm or live in rural communities and go to larger communities for certain items and even more, healthcare.

Yeah a rail system is possible anywhere but will it beat the convenience and time saved just driving yourself. America needs a culture change for mass public transportation to be a viable option.
This more than anything. I used to use park and ride and even then, part of me hated it and wanted to get back to my car and drive, traffic be damned.

But you're still asking people to rent and share and all that and a lot of people hate that. I hated that and none of my own money was funding that at one point. It's a noble cause so more power to you but I think you'll have a hard time convincing people of it overall.
People hated it in Amsterdam too.

They all came around.

If they live outside the city they can continue to drive like everyone else who lives outside major cities with subway systems do. Ya'll might have less traffic to deal with you get there since the people living inside the city have access to public transport.

Flabby and sick gang already in here complaining about the thought of having to walk/bicycle/use public transportation anywhere for anything LITERALLY SWEATING at just the notion of not being able to waddle their sloppy ass to their local Walmart in their oversized cars. you love to see it
People in here basically going into convulsions at the thought of having to ride a bike, and we wonder why the nation's obesity rate is what it is. :russ:

I rather they improve trains and buses first. Maybe look into trams and trollleys. I love taking public transportation. Any place I go to I always check the public transportation out.

That's fair. I do wonder, not you in particular, if they were running around calling people lazy and fat to do so? As we have seen in this country, people will willfully ignore stats and information when insulted or feel as if something is being taken away from them. Instead of "muh guns" it will be "muh cars". Speaking of which, the gun problem in this country would take on a whole other dimension. Very interesting at that.

If they live outside the city they can continue to drive like everyone else who lives outside major cities with subway systems do. Ya'll might have less traffic to deal with you get there since the people living inside the city have access to public transport.
That'd actually be nice. If this results in more people moving out near me though, you're getting a call from me.

Bruh I lived New England for a while and I can tell you yes a rail is way more convenient when consider total time spent; even though Boston’s system is meh.

Taking the orange line in Wellington(semi suburbs) to the red line in downtown Boston was cheaper and less time involved. Think about it this way;

Leaving the house (look up fellsway)
Jump on the freeway (more traffic & possible tolls)
Getting to downtown finding free parking
Giving up and paying to park
Buying gas

Even if it adds 15 mins it’s a better option, especially on your wallet. Then you have the T for long distance. Will you need a car on special occasions, yea but day to day rails are fine. There’s been a few public surveys where the majority supports public transit.

This is the perfect demonstration of induced demand.

When you build more road capacity in urban areas, it attracts more traffic until the road becomes congested.

If LA had any sense they'd have a world class transportation system by now.

This is why travelling is important. Go to Asia and tell me public transport in a place like Houston is impossible.

Wait. You are seriously in favor of driving on the LIE?

You’ve got to be kidding

:mjlol:

25 minutes vs 2.5 hours is a debate?
:mjtf:

It's not either or. Having a great public transit system doesn't mean cars are outlawed. Just means less traffic. Less buses on the road, If you still want to drive maybe it goes from 25 minutes to 18.

If only it worked like that instead of removing more lanes, adding roadblocks, and all the other street additions that tend to happen these days.

Wait. By what evidence does adding rail and bike lane create road blocks?
