Every time an ignorant person says bicycling and public transit would never work in America like it does in Europe…

Just pensively thinking I wondered did the automakers in Detroit think about the adverse effects of , “everybody owning a vehicle ” would put on the population decades later.

I could remember my grandfather telling me when he first came to Detroit how incredible the trolley and bus system was until all that was gutted for the interstates.

My Family
$230 vs $670 a month

"But but but...MUH FREEDOMS!!"

:damn:

That money out people's pockets makes them more slaves than they think.

:sas2:
The difference in price is well worth being able to come and go on demand.

Actually, you could take a bus nearly anywhere in Detroit back in the 90s. Most kids, including myself, took city buses to High School. The school would just give you a bus pass. Folks here in Boston can't even fathom the idea.

Yep, I took the bus all through out my 8th grade year - Grand River. It wasn’t as reliable as my grandfather said the the bus/trolley systems were in the 1930/40s. He said they would come every 10 minutes on the nose.

Grand River bus was never that reliable
