Y'all talking about student loans, but the Dept of Ed focuses on ensuring that everyone has a right to an education via the public school system in their respective state, paying for early childhood education where applicable and Title 1 schooling. The IDEA act is Federal law - eliminating the Dept of Ed would remove the enforcement branch ensuring this law is followed. For children with IEPs and disabilities, it could turn into the wild wild West.
