I'll never make the news again, I'll plan a better *gunshot*

DA trying to slander my name
Trying to charge me for attempt
Disrespecting my aim

Yeah Sig was flagrant back then lol

Thought that nikka was the hardest rapper out at the time though

100% did too, that tape around 2004, Public Enemy # 1.

it's different now with social media eliminating and blurring and confusing the lines between performance and reality, what we actually know about entertainers lives, but in 2004, Sigel rapping about murder charges and attempted murders, and beating trial was stunning. Come to find out Sigel is just a pyscho. He's not doing this for marketing or because he's a genius.

fresh out the federal, cases I got several
bout 4 or 5
just had to settle 2
they say I tried to show a n----- what the metal do
but didn't succeed?
a n----- still breathing
I tell him please
I would hit him in his p's
only clap from the neck up
I woulda let the AR touch him
I don't think they make kevlar skullys

Lemme put it this way....

Beans is the epitome of a old head in Philly that was a fukking idiot, fumbled the bag, and managed to redeem himself, but he will still be known as the "go on ol head" from crash out youngins.

The man could have had his own label, his own freedom, he had the clothing line, the streets, the fame, Hov blessings, movies, and eventually cartoons but it was never enough.

Thankfully, dude doing good with his food truck and counting Ye's money, but he could have led the 215 to greener pastures. I'm talking Philly International type of legacy.

I agree with you in theory, but the same factors that propelled him to fame, and made his music so good, were the same ones that crashed him across the streets of Phillys less fortunate.

Ego, addiction, violence, pettiness, inability to see the bigger picture. but yes, there's a different world where Sigel ends up like a NORE or something like that.

Financially up, stable, relatively healthy, enjoying his life. Not that Sigel has no blessings, but he made it so much harder on himself by doubling down again and again on the same kind of behavior. He even raps about it throughout his career. Die, Dear Self, Feel it In The Air

his story is a tragedy, a shame and a lesson.

Beans was literally the only legit MC that Jay actually campaigned for, at Roc.

Nobody held Beans back, but himself. And Beans has said so himself mad times. Hov and Dame did everything they could to try and get Beans away from doing the dumb sh*t, but he couldn't stop f*cking with the stupid street sh*t. They spent 7-8 years trying to advise him at different times, but dude was too stubborn. By the time they gave up on him, all that promise and potential he had to be one of the greats, was gone.

Above the fray.
Listened to as much as I could. Ness sounds like an idiot.

Jay (& R.O.C.) was one of the only industry figures to recognize the amount of lyrical talent that was in Philly, and put on 5-6 separate acts.

Who put on more rap artists from Philly than Jay Z?

They signed Beans, co-signed him to the fans, and put him in the best possible situation to succeed.

What Ness doesn't get about "they only pressed x amount of copies of his album" is that in the physical media era, artists would do showcases for record store buyers.
Preview their albums so the decision makers for the large record store chains could gauge what quantity of records to order.

I saw video of a showcase that Jay Z did when he was already a superstar, where he was playing the Lenny Kravitz collab record to these buyers, so they would be open to stocking the record in their stores.

Without crossover radio hit, or lead singles..there is NO way that record stores would order a million physical copies of a Beanie Sigel. And without huge first week sales, no way they would order more than what was already in stores.

The bonus "Anything" single bundled with Beans album was meant to boost his sales because it was from a bona fide superstar act, and not available anywhere else except on his album.

If I know this, as a fan, artist who was inside the industry should know this.
