Yes people were hyped after Deep Cover but Dr Dre being a major artist prior to that is what made people look at the album. It wasn't just Snoop because at that point he had ONE song out. Dr Dre had sold MILLIONS of records. And are we going to pretend like the beat isn't ridiculously good and even till this day guys like Currensy will rhyme over it and sound cool as fukk?
You are playing revisionist history and be like no one was hyped for the beats, that Dre wasn't known for making singles people really liked since the JJ fukking Fad days? It was just Snoop rapping and Dre's production was a distance second? The culture out here that birthed that sound was all about car speakers and bass. The Westcoast has always focused in on beats over lyrics. Yet I am supposed to believe that it was all Snoop with his lyrics. That album blew up out here FIRST and New York still wasn't fully on board with 'gangsta rap' and looked down at it.
Im not letting this flex around. I said Snoop did not blow up Dr Dre. All this extra isn't what Im talking about. Of course the album wouldn't have been classic with out Snoop. It wouldn't have been classic with out The DOC or Dr Dre's production. You know that formula they developed before Dr Dre listened to Snoop's demo tape Warren G gave him? Not even Snoop will tell you he blew up Dr Dre in any capacity
