snoop didn't write his raps and Dre as a rapper was clear after express Yosef....

So exactly how did Snoop blow up Dre

uh, The Chronic

I'm sorry, but I don't think too many people want to listen to an album of just Dre rapping. and I think it's well known that Dre has had ghostwriters throughout his career. Express Yourself sounds like Cube wrote it

I really don't get the logic when Dre was a big star before Snoop got out of high school :childplease: people not wanting to hear Dre rap by himself is irrelevant he's a producer first. I guess ODB blew up the Rza cuz he was on 36 chambers.

that's because people are dumb and can't separate influence from accomplishments

Dre has a lot of accomplishments but very little influence

U makin sum good points in here man....but maybe u can't completely seperate accomplishments from influence.....heavy bass, synths, instruments, soul singers on hooks, funk samples have been a staple in the west coast sound but Dre blew it up....let's use the example Drake didn't invent the "its goin down, basement" style punchline and people from big sean to luda have showed they did it first and they probaly influenced Drake,Budden has influenced Drake...Kool G rap influenced Nas but Nas had the bigger impact......just random examples, but just becuz sumbody doesn't come up with a style if they blow up with it and are the reason people start to use that style versus the person who originated it is that person still not influential?:manny:....blame it on people maybe not knowing all they history but it is what it is....dre is influential becuz he bought it to the forefront not Quik or Above The Law...its just important to remind folks and I think threads like this do a good job of that and will maybe make people look at nikkas who was also influential to Dre.....influence is important but it ain't everything.....his impact is unquestionable and I thinks says a lot more....its influential cats all throuout the history of music who's influence might have gon unheard if not for sumbody else taking that incluence and putting it into they own style, and taking it to the next level.

they made a little noise with this

and then came the first single off the Chronic...

^^^^^that shyt was an instant hit. sealed the deal. and it was because of Snoop, and of course Dre's production. the album came out a month later and went through the roof. and Snoop was on what? all but 3 tracks. but that album solidified the fact Dre could make classic albums without Cube and Eazy. cause lets face it, those were the draws (shout out to Art Barr) of NWA. but the Chronic was a success (to put it lightly), and after that Doggystyle really sealed the deal. after that Dre was solidified as this super producer. and again that was with Snoop. could he have done all that with another rapper? who knows. I don't think he would have been as successful with just RBX and Lady of Rage, or solo

I think it will go down as one of those we will never know things....its clear Snoop had nikkas hype for the chronic bcuz they wanted to hear more....didn't matter who Dre had writing for him even in NWA it wuz clear nikkas wanted to hear Eazy E and Cube rap and they were the stars.....its tuff to even use the argument of him still being relevant after Cube left becuz he still had Eazy E who wuz the star as the rapper and the face....so I can't say people really wanted to hear Dre rap and he wuz a guaranteed star without people hearing snoop and absolutly wanting to hear more,he's all over the chronic its damn near as much as a duo album as Watch The Throne is:laff:

On the otherhand the music DRE PRODUCED wuz the reason the album wuz classic and maybe folks would've bought it for the quality of music which happened a lot.....I see ur point but Cube and Eazy blew up Dre...so I guess u simply sayin Snoop didn't blow him up bcuz Cube and Eazy already helped em blow up....but put that aside and think did Snoop blow up the Chronic:mjpls:? Not Dre but the Chronic?

If u say Snoop blew up the chronic u gotta sumwhat agree Snoop blew up Dre....that's dres coming out party, that's what put him in demand, that's what got the industry on dres nuts, his production performance many may not have taken notice of without Snoop on it...his love come from that not what he did with NWA.

That is my point. How could Snoop 'blow up Dre' when he was already well known, multiple platinum artist. Of course there are people others want to hear over him, hes a producer, but as far as him getting known for rapping as well that was on the Express Yourself single/video. Major MAJOR rotation on MTV.

Express yourself was the last single off that multi-platinum album and the song has two verses from Dr Dre. He handles most of the lyrics on the song. It is almost like M.E.T.H.O.D MAN was on 36 chambers. I don't see how its even debatable that, that single is what blew Dre up as a 'rapper' not just a producer. That was 3 years before The Chronic even came out. That was also their second most popular song after fukk The Police.

I never once said Snoop didn't help make The Chronic classic. I said Snoop didn't blow up Dr Dre. There is a big difference. I do not get the logic behind saying because Snoop was awesome on The Chronic it 'blew up Dr Dre as a rapper' when really once again, if you want to keep it 100, people just wanted to hear Snoop and the Dogg Pound more than Dre. Just like people wanted to hear more of Cube and Eazy. It still doesn't change the fact that

I won't even comment on the 'influential' part of this thread because as far as I am concerned its a fukking troll and not even up for debate.

Dr. Dre with Snoop Dogg "Deep Cover" - YouTube

and then came the first single off the Chronic...

Dr Dre - Nothin But A G Thang MUSIC VIDEO - YouTube

This song came out in 1989 as a single on a multiplatinum, classic album. The video had MAJOR play on MTV and urban radio.

Dr Dre raps on a majority of the song. And if you listen to it, it sounds like it is his song because MC Ren even has a line about him in it. The video even focuses a lot on him.

How could Snoop have blown up Dr Dre as a rapper when he dominated NWA's second most popular song in 1989? That was THREE YEARS before the Chronic.

Yes people were hyped after Deep Cover but Dr Dre being a major artist prior to that is what made people look at the album. It wasn't just Snoop because at that point he had ONE song out. Dr Dre had sold MILLIONS of records. And are we going to pretend like the beat isn't ridiculously good and even till this day guys like Currensy will rhyme over it and sound cool as fukk?

You are playing revisionist history and be like no one was hyped for the beats, that Dre wasn't known for making singles people really liked since the JJ fukking Fad days? It was just Snoop rapping and Dre's production was a distance second? The culture out here that birthed that sound was all about car speakers and bass. The Westcoast has always focused in on beats over lyrics. Yet I am supposed to believe that it was all Snoop with his lyrics. That album blew up out here FIRST and New York still wasn't fully on board with 'gangsta rap' and looked down at it.

Im not letting this flex around. I said Snoop did not blow up Dr Dre. All this extra isn't what Im talking about. Of course the album wouldn't have been classic with out Snoop. It wouldn't have been classic with out The DOC or Dr Dre's production. You know that formula they developed before Dr Dre listened to Snoop's demo tape Warren G gave him? Not even Snoop will tell you he blew up Dr Dre in any capacity :snoop:

real talk...Snoop's charisma was a big factor in the draw in The Chronic but the SOUND is what made everything come together...plus Dre's and DOC's direction...

I think when people say "blew up Dre" they mean blew up Dre to the Dre that he as seen as today....Wuz nikkas really itchin for a Dre solo album after express yourself? I think Chronic blew him up as a legit solo artist and legendary producer he's known as today,he wuznt thought of as any of that before Chronic....its similar to sayin Diplomatic Immunity "blew up" Jim Jones before "Ballin",different levels of populariy obviously....and it is true but we can all agree its a different level of "blew up"....but if we talkin really blew him as a rapper where I think dudes really wuz interested in actually hearing him rap based on him and him alone.....id have to say that didn't happen until Still Dre imo....I know Jay wrote it but most casual fans don't know that and he killed that shyt....id say NWA blew his name up....Snoop and the chronic blew him up as a producer and made him appear a viable solo artist even tho snoop carried it imo on the rap side clearly....Still Dre I think is the song that woulda made nikkas buy Dres album based off his performance alone rap wise.....Chronic wuz a different level of "Dre blowin up'

The whole reason Dre was even able to do that record was because of him already blowing up, being a successful multi platinum rapper, who had been featured on many songs.

I can tell you people in Southern California were excited for the album because 1) Dr Dre helped put the area on the map in Hip Hop and 2) because Snoop and Dre's chemistry on Deep Cover was next level shyt. Not just because Snoop Dogg came off perfect on it but because it was also the perfect beat.

Snoop would never have been the artist he was with out The Doc and Dr Dre teaching him how to make records. The DOC has said in interviews that he had to coach Snoop on the right way to make records. He could freestyle off the top of his head but didn't know how to make songs. So to say that Snoop blew them up when they brought the best out in him, based on things they did in the past, is a bit disrespectful and discrediting.

can't say I agree wit this bolded...and Still Dre's MAIN appeal was the beat...real talk...lol...Dre always got outshined on the rap tip even on 2001 by damn near everybody...ESPECIALLY Eminem..lol..but he still had respect due to his track record...Snoop didn't "blow" Dre up but Snoop's charisma helped sell the Chronic...it was kinda like one hand washed the other's but it was Dre's overall sound...direction..production..and vision that made that music classic as well...I don't think Snoop woulda been as big as he was without Dre..Dre was always gonna be makin hits without Snoop..same shyt he was doin before Snoop...not sayin it would have been AS BIG..but it wouldve been big regardless...cause that sound was fresh as fukk...

yup...Snoop even said him self that Dre gave him some his swag on the records like the sing songy flow n shyt....and told him to say things different kinda ways and that shyt became like his trademark...
