Crossed 300k a few years ago but did my best to curtail lifestyle creep. I don't spend money on clothes, jewelry or travel really though I was just starting to travel right before the pandemic. I leased a brand new sports car in 2013 and got it still, paid off. Bought a 750k condo in the city right before the pandemic to be close to work but now that I work remote, I just moved into a 2.8k sq ft SFH today about 45 mins outside of the city. I'm just renting the SFH though (market too crazy right now) and letting family use my condo for a discount until I decide to rent the condo out at market.

100k didn't mean much in the city but once I was over 250k, I started to see how rules of thumbs and general finance advice no longer applies. And taxes :sadbron:

Also, I don't hear this enough but making this much makes it hard to be normal amongst friends. Especially, in our community if people think (don't even have to know numbers) you doing good and you suggest to do things then it's "aye everybody ain't got it like you but I'm trying to get there playa" :youngsabo:Funny thing is they be the same one with Balenciaga shirts and Prada shoes, asking why I don't stunt on hoes but yet they shut down a trip to Vegas immediately:francis:

Reading this thread is a reminder though to get back on my saving/investing and look into additional income streams :salute:

100k seems like an outdated threshold. lets raise the stakes...

who is gettin over $175,000/year :jbhmm:

That's light money too:

I know of some people who graduated from a 3 month coding bootcamp who now make $200k their first year.

No bullshyt. Being a software engineer myself I've seen some insane salaries.

yea definitely. i initially wanted to set it at $200k but also trying to keep in perspective what is realistic. cause honestly what % of the USA population is even making above 100. prob not a significantly high amount

I’m slightly above 200 but it’s honestly not as much as i thought with a home, kids, etc.

My goal is to get closer to 300 within the next year through switching jobs or promotion.

I think 270+ would allow me to clear remaining debt and truly live comfortably.

In retrospect, I left lifestyle creep eat into my disposable income but at this point I’m set. No more big purchases or kids so I should really be able to enjoy my next leg up.

I’m early 30’s so my goal is to hit 400+ by 40. Which is crazy because my goal out of college was to hit $100k by 30 and I thought that was true wealth :francis:

shyt really real out here.

I work for a FAANG company though non-tech. But product manager, and SWE are making bank breh. I’m talking new grads over 200 tc and bammas with 3/4 year exp easily bringing in >300.

Mid career folks clearing 4-500 easy.

I have been for a few years between my side business and work.
I have two kids. I drive a car from 2015 that's paid off and has low miles. I have few vices and am not materialistic at all.
I think the only nice, expensive thing I have is the home I had built.
Cost of living here is good compared to like NYC/LA.

So I'm in an OK place but still want to do better.

Yup, and not even only at FAANG either:

Some FAANG where you can sort by total compensation on the table:

Some Principal/Staff software engineers make $2-4+ mil a year. Get paid more than some NBA players, definitely make more than most singers and can potentially have careers of over 40 years.

Many people wonder how they can pay that, but a company like Apple made $400 billion in revenue last year, of which and after paying for everything they still had $165 billion profit. They could have paid each of their 154,000 employees $1mil/year (including people doing customer service) and still would've pulled in $10 billion in pure profit. If they did that though they'd probably launch prices skyhigh.

200k is the new 100k. You aint struggling on 100k but you ain't ballin like that anymore. There is a world of difference between when I made 100k vs when I cracked 200k.

Cert gang. I'm faang as well. I manage a team of SWE. Majority of income is RSU and bonuses ( stock and cash performance). For example you can have a base of 200k and clear another 250k in rsu and bonus yearly.

Yea you winning. My base is mid 140’s but depending on stock price my RSUs get me to the 210-225 range. But this year has been rough.

Can I dm you though? I got an interview coming up in a couple weeks with a different FAANG and curious to know where you work.
