I LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX!
This is why I was low key cheering for Comcast to get Fox, but here we are. One less studio to release content and the franchises that Disney said that they were going to keep running are starting to look :picard:.

Avatar? :unimpressed:
Alien? :hhh:
Planet of the Apes back in development hell. :francis:
PG-13 Deadpool? :mjcry:

How many big tier studios are still out there? Disney, Warner Brothers, Universal, Paramount, Sony.......Is United Artists even still around?

Disney is bigger than life. They aren't going to bow to anything. :yeshrug:

So, looks like they paid all that money for X-men and F4? :ld:

Why are they surprised Dark Phoenix flopped? That movie looked half-a**ed and the actors mailed it in. Dead on arrival. :yeshrug: Everybody else wasn't surprised by the flop except for Disney. :mjtf:

The Murdochs sold Fox at the perfect time

2019 Fox is making Paramount look good at the boxoffice :scust:

I think variety are fear mongering with Fox Searchlight which have been announcing new shyt since Disney bought fox even with Taika that was brought up

I'm two minds on this. The larger picture, not just the titles they said they're unhappy with. On one hand, it's a business and your job is to make money. Cool. but when I look at articles in variety detailing what their plans are going forward, and basically only releasing movies that are engineered to be blockbusters, I have an issue with that. Big issue.

We're at the point where they only want to dust off properties they know are sure fire wins, and its the lion king all over again: A movie designed by a corporate machine without much soul to it. They won't take any risks, like Taika Waititi's latest joint, all because it doesn't fit the brand or may ruffle feathers. Every product will have its edges smoothed out and be focus group tested to the utmost degree:francis:

That sounds like a very boring ass future

I said that months ago that Disney buying FOX is basically killing the leftover creativity in mainstream films as you know it. Its basically an assassination attempt for original films and content that FOX always been known for.

The future is bleak indeed

Watch movie tickets being raised to $30 per ticket due to Disney distributing 45% of all films.

This is such typical Hollywood Takeover nonsense it's hilarious. Years ago when Lionsgate was still a niche horror studio (riding on the success of the Saw series), the person in charge of the studio got replaced. The first thing the new studio head did was drop nearly all movies greenlit by his predecessor, dumping them into theaters or to VOD without any sort of marketing because it was time to move away from being a niche studio, then when all those movies nautrally flopped, he used it as "evidence" that he was right, allowing him to change the direction of the studio even further.

These kind of self-created self-fulfilling prophecies are Hollywood tactic #1 to overhaul a studio by setting them up to fail and then state loudly it's time to "take control" of things.

RIght now the only films that are working in the domestic box office are horror and tentpoles. One notable exception is action adjacent stuff (romance, comedy, sci-fi). Audiences are fickle though. Can't stop trying to be creative because one generation is a certain way.

That's so sad but I think streaming got people used to watching non-special effects stuff on TV. I know I'm guilty off of it, especially when I watch a dope dram flick that has great outdoor shots.

How do these not sound like flops on paper before they even made them?:mjlol:

Fox just dumb
Exactly, they don’t know what people want and are trying to put the blame on the filmmakers. As a studio you are supposed to have a slight idea of what people want. Those movies should have never came out
