I’m pretty much primed to expect shyt endings to series after the fifth season (especially from the cable networks) so no, but I too am not happy with how they’re ending it.

To be fair no truly GOAT show had eight seasons of piff. GOT’s world is so sprawling that they probably needed ten seasons to convey the story the right way and that just wasn’t possible for a variety of reasons.

The show had six great seasons. It definitely suffers from end-of-showitis and a lot of it is self-inflicted but that doesn’t diminish the quality of the previous seasons.

The sole reason we went down this rabbit hole in the first place is people seemed to misinterpret what I said....which is "I don't see how people can admit this has had 2 bad seasons, but it's still top 5".

Key words "admitted it has 2 bad seasons".

Fred.
No, we went down this hole because you said this, and that’s not how “people” feel. A lot of people don’t feel like they wasted years of their lives as seasons 1-6 were top notch tv, even some of season 7, and wouldn’t trade that ride for any other show.

It seems like people don't want to admit they wasted 8 years of their life investing in this series, only for the writers to completely fukk it up at the finish line. It's a bitter pill to swallow but let's keep it real here.

I have actually really liked Season 8 so far.

I like the direction they went in Episode 3.

At first, I was mad and concerned about character arcs in the wake of Episode 5 but, in retrospect, the more I think about it, the more it makes sense.

I actually appreciate episode 5 now in how it developed the show with its penultimate episode.

Now, if episode 6 is a good/great episode, then Game of Thrones is a winner.

The season I've liked the least so far is Season 5. It was still damn good television.

I really dont think they did service to the White Walker threat either. That shouldve taken more than 1 fukking episode to resolve since they built up that threat for 7 seasons and spent almost the entirety of season 7 focusing on it.
I was bummed that we didn't find out anything about the, or the Night King. The threat was built up so much and they even showed some Night King backstory and for it really to have just been "nope they're all just bad guys that want to kill everyone" was a little bit of a letdown to me.
Two trash seasons in a row puts it in the West Wing/Buffy convo. Y'all can dead the Wire/Sopranos comparisons :hhh:

:heh: I feel you but that's a but harsh. I'd say more like Dexter, which had a few seasons that were some of the best television of all time, and then a couple absolutely awful seasons as time went on. To be fair I've never seen West Wing or Buffy, but I just assume network TV shows are usually not that good, with a few exceptions like FX and AMC. They both had some awesome series'. I don't know if those are considered network or premium channels as I cut my cable a long time ago. Mr Robot on USA is the only show I've seen on what I consider to be a true regular ass network channel that is on par with some of the shows we get on premium channels.

And I'm not talking about it being in people's top 5 in general....I'm talking about people saying it had two bad seasons....but it's still top 5. There's no precedent for that in TV history. The closest to that would be "The Wire" which had a so-so season 5 but the fall off was nowhere near "GOT".

Fred.

Maybe it's rose-tinted glasses but did The Wire really fall off? The weakest part of season 5 was the fake serial killer thing. That seemed a little bit outlandish, and the newspaper sub-plot wasn't that great, but nothing in season 5 undermined the previous seasons or had characters suddenly act in ways that seemed inauthentic to how they'd been written up to that point. It's been a long time since I've watched the show but I never remember watching season 5 and thinking they dropped the ball that much...which says a lot considering season 4 is my favorite and arguably a top 5 season in all of TV history.

And I still think it has one of the most slept on endings in TV history. Considering the themes of the show and Baltimore being the "main character" they pretty much nailed the ending with things coming full circle, yet simultaneously not changing.

I wouldn't say it fell off at all. Well, season 4 to 5 was a huge fall off....but season 4 is arguably the best single TV season in history.

But over all....nah, not a fall off. I was just saying "The Wire" even on it's worst day is nowhere near what happened to "GOT"....but cats wanna talk about "GOT" can still be top 5. :dahell:

what show(s) do you feel supplant it now that’s it’s not in the top 5 in your opinion?

I’m not looking to pick apart your answers either...just genuinely curious

1. "Breaking Bad"
2. "The Wire"
3. "The Sopranos"

1 and 2 are interchangeable really....so I only have a top 2.

I have a very strict rule set for any show that would be 1-5.

Can't be less than 4 seasons, can't have any bad seasons. Some shows like "X-Files" are GOAT status....until the later seasons. Other shows like "Hannibal" are incredible....but only 3 seasons.

I'd say the best contender for a top 5 spot, out of the current generation of TV shows, is "Mr. Robot". No bad seasons, and it'll end after season 4.

"GOT" would've been a lock for a top 5 spot....might've even knocked out something 1-3 and replaced it....but that shyt is over with now. I wouldn't put it anywhere near those shows after season 8.

cool...we’re not too far off...I don’t have a strong top 5 cuz I feel a lot of television is overrated/formulaic albeit still fun to watch after nursing a few drinks...my top 3 must-watch status shows used to be GOT...Wire and OZ...I felt the sopranos was overrated til I saw a few clips posted on here that made me want to rewatch the series and after I feel the sopranos is much better than OZ (the last 2 seasons of OZ were pure shyt)...I still have GOT as #1...after this last season tho I’m let some time pass then start rewatching it and see if the series as whole still hits me the same

I can understand the issues people have with it but nah, I'm not the type to get really bent out of shape about stuff like that.

This is hilarious though.
