King Kai.... why did he only teach Goku the good shyt? He could have taught the others how to do kaioken and the spirit bomb... would have helped a lot.

Why Goku never taught everyone how to do Instant Transmission? Really could have helped everyone out during the Android/Cell Sagas.

It's criminal that Piccolo wasn't just as strong as Goku and Vegeta given he was a Super Namakian after fusing with both Nail and Kami
Why didn't Goku teach anyone else instant transmission

Greedy fvck :what:

On the other hand vegeta was raised as a planet destroying saiyan and still had unconditional love for his wife, made time to take his family out on trips, and would rather be there for the birth of his daughter than to go test his strength against powerful foes.

Goku didnt give a fukk about any of that shyt.

:hhh:
That's my Prince of all Saiyans :mjcry:

I'll point out something that a lot of purists might get on me for. Watching Dragon Ball Z isn't the same without Bruce Faulconer's soundtrack. It's what made certain scenes stand out in my memory.

Just watch this scene of Cell's introduction with Faulconer's music. It perfectly sets up the eerie atmosphere

Now watch his introduction with the original Dragon Ball music.

The original track just doesn't fit the tone. Bruce Falconer's track was far more ominous and illustrated how terrifying Cell actually was

A good soundtrack and score matters. I can hear any piece from the Halo 1-3, ODST, or reach soundtracks and tell you almost exactly where in the game it played.

Yeah I'm watching on Funimation this time and it doesn't have the Faulconer score, it's a lot different. Crazy how intense his music made all of the fights, or even simple shyt like Goku showing up to save everyone.

Biggest letdown so far was the Goku/Frieza fight, I remember that shyt crushing the buildings when Goku went Super Saiyan for the first time. The music had me ready to try and go Super Saiyan my damn self. :wow:

nikka Dragon ball is a Kung-fu anime, all that late '90s techno shyt didn't fit the atmosphere at all.

:salute:to Scott Morgan, Julian Dobos, and Mike Smith (the actual guys who worked on the dub score but went uncredited) for working with what they were given and making some dope melodies but the shyt didn't fit Dragon Ball all that well.

And I say this as someone who was introduced through the dub first and loved the English score for a long time. But once you get into the original and see how shyt was supposed to be, there's no looking back. (That being said, a lot of the music placement in the Japanese version of the Buu saga is pretty poor)

The Faulconer score is a bit dated in some regard, but you can't deny that the intro and outro tracks always had a brotha :banderas: and
full
when they played.

i'm a purist and i actually agree with you.

pound for pound i think the OG japanese score is far, FAR superior... but yes there are times where they insert a certain musical cue that i don't think fits. in your example i agree that the english dub communicated a better feeling of uneasiness and suspense.

but look at the scene in the english dub when goku goes SS for the first time right after krillin is killed... they went with a more 'triumphant' theme even though goku is supposed to be uncontrollable and mad with rage.

plus the acting just isn't comparable. mind you i saw some of the super dub and they seemed to have to improve a great deal, but they're still not in the same league as the japanese actors.

I mean yeah, don't get me wrong there's definitely plenty of spots where the dub did a better job with the music choice but I just think that overall, the style didn't really fit.

The episode where Gohan killed Cell is a masterpiece in the dub :banderas:. When the pianos on Vegeta's theme hit before he fires the blast... get goosebumps just thinking about it:wow:

what did you think of the ocean dub score?

personally i thought it gave the show a nice burst of energy and kept it feeling upbeat. i really like how fast paced and intense the music became during fight scenes.

all in all i thought it was real atmospheric.

Never really watched the Ocean dub enough to have an opinion on the music tbh

see the ocean dub was my first exposure to DBZ, so i'll always have a soft spot for it.

i thought they did a much better job than when funimation took over, but it has nothing on the OG jap score of course.

:whew:

one of the better uses of that cue.
