Just look at the people who developed the film, nothing but white people from producers and writers

the inexplicable violence and rioting ( black people destroying they Community) without clearly explaining the reasoning it reach this point

Here's another review that touch on it:

I tuned her out as soon as she brought up the fact that the movie does not star any black women even though the actual even did not involve black women.

The IGN review might actually be the most level headed one I've read. There's no historical context to the film and focuses on brutality. Using Detroit as the title was a cheap tactic to draw attention.

I see what she wanted to do, and I do not think that she needed to go all the way into the historical context of the riots. She wanted to highlight the brutality with the police and the evoke its parallels to today by using the Algiers Motel incident as an area of focus. I think that the criticism about the title is as silly as the criticism about Dear White People because of that series' title.

Can someone explain why this movie is interesting?

If I want to see police brutality and injustice toward black folk, I can just turn on the tv and watch the news, go on youtube and watch countless videos of police abusing their power.

This movie is not for us brehs. This is a movie created by white people for white people.

Pretty much every review I've seen has basically said this movie is for White people that don't "get" police brutality. Everybody respects it on a technical level though

Review rips this movie to shreds. Even if you liked the film can yall co-sign or is she just mad at who directed it.

That Twitter broad looks like she already had an agenda set in place beforehand because of the director. Not reading that shyt.
Yeah, A lot of Shea Butter/Representation Matters/Black Girls Rock segments of Black Twitter have been trying to smear & sabotage this movie for weeks because :

1. There is no prominent Black female characters in the movie

2. A White Woman is directing it.

:gucci: These crazy hoes on Twitter really think that Black Men & White Women are conspiring together against them:

I think it's interesting that some people are calling it a horror film because that's exactly the vibe I got. Even the use of music and editing gives a horror flick aesthetic to the trailer. I actually thought that was clever in light of the success of 'Get Out'. This is real life horror. I am glad I read some of the critique, but plan to see it this weekend for myself

Can someone explain why this movie is interesting?

If I want to see police brutality and injustice toward black folk, I can just turn on the tv and watch the news, go on youtube and watch countless videos of police abusing their power.

This movie is not for us brehs. This is a movie created by white people for white people.
The basic point of the movie seemed to be that things haven't changed in 50 years and that's a point that a lot of white AND black people just don't accept. It was a decent movie to me because there were no real white saviors. There were some typical "all whites ain't bad" moments but ultimately all whites in the movie are guilty besides the 2 white broads, and they aren't saviors.

The movie indicts the entire system and illustrates how it's not just a "police brutality" thing. These are anti-black terrorists with badges sanctioned and protected by the system and whites in general.

I see the anti-black man bed wench brigade tryna push the "Becky" angle but honestly the movie didn't glamorize IR at all. If anything, it showed how problematic it can be for black men to fukk with white girls. Them having white girls around was painted as a major motivation for the cops terrorizing them.

I also think it showed how fukked up being black and involved in law enforcement is. You can try and be a "good/fair cop" all you want but ultimately you're part of a white supremacist terrorist gang and you have to go with the flow to stay down. The black law enforcement character was a major major c00n.

It's not a movie that I need to see again but it made a powerful point and overall outside of nitpicking here and there I don't see any major issues.
