Most played games will usually be third-parties unless it's Nintendo. However, Sony at least got a game or 2 in top 10, which differentiates itself from the competitor. In 2022 I highly doubt any xbox game made the top 10 most played list, and that's the difference between why a person would buy a PS5 over a Series X.
Xbox games are even higher on the list

One could argue Xbox games have sold more xbox’s than sony games playstations :mjpls:

But even all those people combined aren’t more than the Apex, COD, 2K, Minecraft players.

Yea playstation might attract some extra sales for fringe japanese stuff, but that’s only a small portion of their players.

If you look at the games that are making big money and drawing big crowds, those are the same games on both consoles. Xbox’s most played lists looks pretty much the same as playstation.

If the majority of people were on playstation for playstation exclusives those lists would look very different.

So basically...you are saying M$ should give up on trying to procure developers or just release the games they make on every system, since exclusives don't really matter. I mean by your logic if its all about gamepass just put gamepass on sony systems and be done with the console market.

They already are releasing their games on pretty much any screen on earth no xbox needed.

Why not on ps5, since consoles don't matter and they are seemingly conceding that market to them?

you'd make way more money doing that than the inverse

Well if you can get your fringe / niche taste filled and all the most popular games on the same platform that explains the purchase decision.

Your argument is completely flawed because it ignores that fact. You can get 20 different PlayStation gamers in a room and ask them which games influenced their choice to get PlayStation over Xbox and get widely different sets of games. Try that the other way around and the list of games will probably be mostly the same.

Game Pass is the thing that doesn't move the needle. It's great for those of us who will play any and everything, but most gamers will buy the box where they can get COD and God of War or FIFA and Spider-Man or GTA and The Last of Us.

GP is nice, don't get me wrong, but most people buy a console for specific IP...including exclusives.

The big games they would make more money by being on playstation are on playstions.

Minecraft gets more play on Playstation than most playstation exclusives. It wouldn’t make sense to cut off that audience, minimal people would actually switch and they’d be missing out on a bunch of money that’s generated on playstation.

For other games it strategically does make sense to keep them off playstation cause they aren’t losing out on a lot of money and it may drive playstation users to try out gamepass or xcloud.

A playstion gamer that subscribes to gamepass/xcloud. Is a much more valuable user than a Playstation gamer that buys an xbox to play 3 or 4 games. They actually lose money on that type of customer.

For SOME people. The majority of people aren’t checking for that stuff at all.

There have been surveys done.

“exclusives are usually far down on the list as for reasons people purchased an xbox or playstation.

how you figure

so many people got gamepass for like a dollar.

and then you have people who probably grab it for a month or two out of the year to play what they want and bush it.

If the goal is to filter people into gamepass they are doing a terrible job. I got a high end laptop, can get a few months for free atm, and still havent bothered because outside of the trash xbox exclusives its a bunch of games that are on sale on steam every other week, or old.

Unless you want to play everything, I'm not seeing the value in GP. this is no stan shyt I'm being completely objective because I game on pc as well.

People are dishonest

They think it's just hey make exclusives and we'll buy your system.

It makes so much logical sense when you think about it, if all the systems have something exclusive that I have to buy to play it then they will right?

But every data point in the world proves that the opposite, most people don't own all the streaming services, netflix, hulu, hbo max, amazon prime, Peakcock, Disney plus.

With music Tidal, spotify, amazon music, pandora, youtube music, google play.

With phones, apple, Samsung, Hauwei, Sony, Nokia, Motorola, Asus

With web browsers, Chrome, Edge, Firefox..

The list goes on and on.

There is really nothing that works like that in the entertainment business or hardware business where everyone buys or uses 2 of something that does 90 percent of the same thing almost equally. On top of that he's not saying they give up, he's saying what he has been saying that they aren't in a console war race with sony. He said that google and amazon where going to be more of the competition that they would be facing, yall was laughing then like "how can sony and nintendo not be competition" it just shows how short sighted most of you are.

The console space while important isn't the space they are looking to try and "win" because they cannot, it's locked in with 1 and 2 going between sony and nintendo. Especially with deals going on that cripple xbox growing in the area they need. He basically said the same thing he always said but but was brutally honest and now yall acting brand new.

Like I said phil should just not say again, gamers don't really get nor care about the how's or why.

So yes a bunch of killer app exclusives would have people buy more xbox's but there is a cap on it, even more so than back in the day. And even back in the day usually a family bought one system or the other when it was sega vs nintendo. That didn't start to change until later when nintendo started doing it's own thing and xbox came in as direct competition to playstation. Then people started buying a xbox or PS and a nintendo system. With some buying all 3.

Fast forward to today and things haven't changed, But the economy of gaming has and people are more locked in now than just open to buying something new because a "playstation 2 doesn't play playstation 1 games."

Consoles are sold at cost or at a loss.

You have to buy an xbox and a couple games just for microsoft to break even on your existence.

You buy an xbox and only buy the 4-5 exclusives you like, microsoft has only made like $100 bucks on you over the course of the generation.

If they get you to sign up for gamepass, they make more than that in a year and they didn’t have to sell you any hardware.

The people who are gonna buy an xbox are people who are vested in the xbox ecosystem. Those people are valuable customers. They buy their 3rd party games and digital content on xbox. The people who are vested in another ecosystem are more valuable customers by NOT buying an xbox.

Gamepass bring in $1 billion in cash last quarter, might now be your thing, but lots of people are using it and paying for it.
