Starfield is only ONE game

They need MORE than Starfield they need multiple great legendary exclusives

If Halo didnt flop then they wouldve been in a much better situation today. But Halo flopped for more reasons than just bugs and lack of content. You had out of touch clowns in leadership refusing to evolve the gameplay suite to cater to a more modern audience making comments like "the only BR we acknowledge are 'battle rifles'". And now they all playing catch-up cause they were dumbfounded.

The problem Xbox has is they got too many idiot boomers in charge with no taste and no idea how to actually get these developers to make good games. When the whole Activision merger was announced, you literally had Phil talking about bringing Guitar Hero and Kings Quest back. What the fukk makes you go to those franchises when these guys own the IPs to Starcraft, Warcraft, Overwatch, etc etc. Making a Xbox exclusive experience for any of these huge IPs would actually have Sony on the ropes and gamers contemplating buying an Xbox.

These guys dont prioritize content (aka new games), and they're just looking to put a digital storefront on as many devices as possible and sell early access and over priced DLC for incomplete games. They dont even care if the devices support the games they wanna sell (Nintendo and cloud devices with COD).

The truth is, is that they needed Redfall, Starfield, Minecraft, Forza, and whatever else they release this year to be high quality games, along with gamepass still being good, and then do it again next year, and the year after.

Starfield itself doesn’t mean shyt for xbox, even if its an elden ring/skyrim level success if the next game they drop after that is another dud. Microsoft needs its own ‘seal of quality’ that they still have not met

This is the case when you’re starting at a whole generation deficit of good software

Its never going to happen for these guys because there's no more excuses left for these guys. You see why Xbox never has the games. Its not that they lack the studios, its not that they lack valuable IP, or whatever, its the shytty management pushing out shytty product.

Redfall was made by a newly acquired studio, a proven studio (even tho Deathloop, Dishonored, and Prey were overrated to me), and they still fukked it up, just like the Ghost Wire Xbox port - which shouldve been flawless since its an Xbox studio making an Xbox game. There's no reason why these games couldn't have been delayed and have had most of their issues fixed before a proper release later this year.

Hear you go again thinking multiplatform games are 1:1 on every platform. The reason why there are more fortnite players on playstation than xbox is because sony made their platform more attractive to play on. How did they do that? Spider-man, God of War, Gran Turismo, Last of Us, etc.

Theres no skirting around the significance of exclusive content. You need games
Playstation the brand is more powerful than any exclusive game.

Xbox and playstation have usually sold pretty equal reach in the U.S.

Xbox never has and never will gain much ground outside america. The console market is shrinking and Nintendo and Sony have a Huge head start. Sony is still trying to even catch up with themselves with their best selling console.

Seriously, though, WiiU was notorious for barely having any games come out for it the last two years. I agree with you that exclusive software itself doesn't sell hardware. You're not wrong.

But when there's not a lot of delineation between two different hardware options, what sells people? The games. What games are the biggest differentiators? Exclusive ones.

And it's important to note that hardware matters less than software - the Switch is an underbaked piece of hardware, but it doesn't matter because of the a) pricing, b) form factor options, and c) the slew of games that Nintendo's producing for it. You can't see the wild attach rates that Nintendo's first-party games are having and say that exclusive software isn't massive. It doesn't sell hardware itself, but it's too significant a factor to ignore.
At this point in the console market it’s brands that sell.

It’s like don’t matter how cool a shoe is or how fast it makes you run nobody is gonna outsell Nike going forward. So if you wanna sell athletic shoes you gotta make your own market. That’s what phill is saying here. They could sign steph curry but the xbox still gone be a pair of new balances :manny:

I'm still hurt by how badly Crackdown was managed, though that was partially before Spencer's time. That first Crackdown was a great game and had such a promising start to an IP, but then Crackdown 2 had the weird zombie thing that bogged down the free-flowing traversal, and Crackdown 3 was a super-delayed mess because they had a big idea for multiplayer that they could never get right.

I just wish we could rewind Xbox IP-wise and developer-wise to early 2007 because they had shyt cooking back then.

Your first point about competition is true. So how does Mario or Zelda or God of War or TLOU stay relevant with all this increased competition, but Halo and Gears have lesser relevance? Management, or the mismanagement thereof.

I expect these studios to make transcendent games like EAD or Santa Monica or Naughty Dog are considered to do on the regular. That they don't is down to mismanagement.
I disagree that they have lesser relevance. Halo and Forza had like 20 million players each close to launch.

They are just a different style of game. People on the internet put great emphasis on story games but the majority of people playing games are not playing those games.

The only part of the console market that is shrinking is on Microsoft's end. And that's due to them not doing their part.

Playstation had already sold more consoles than any xbox console would sell before xbox even thought about hitting the market.

Playstation has still yet to match their numbers from that time.

The same with Nintendo before PS1

And the second line is cap. PS4 is the 2nd best selling console sony has and its looking pretty much certain the ps5 will outselll
