Miller's Crossing
Coens' classic. What more can really be said. Jon Polito is hilarious in this. He needs to work with them again, he's always dope in their shyt.
Yo I've kinda been sleeping on early Brian DePalma.
Never been a huge fan of his shyt. Even things like Scarface and Carlito's Way are overrated IMO.
But I did a lil double bill of two of his earlier films
Sisters and
Dressed to Kill
Both of these were crazy. The Hitchcock influence is very strong in both.
Dressed to Kill is completely fukkery
. Like if Hitchcock made a soft core porn movie. I loved it. I like how De Palma is good at combining high art with low art.
Freebie and the Bean
This is a slept on film from the 70s. A buddy cop flick with James Caan and Alan Arkin. This shyt is so un-PC it's crazy.
. Only could've came out in the '70s. Caan and Arkin make a good duo.
Black Sunday
I wasn't so crazy about this. '70s thriller about pro-Palestinian supporters planning a terrorist attack on the Superbowl. shyts aight....kinda creeky in places.
b*stards
Clare Denis film from a couple of years back. This was dark as fukk. A nasty modern noir about sexual abuse from French society's rich and powerful. Grim and bleak film.
The End of the Tour
Nice little two-hand character piece with Jesse Eisenberg and Jason Siegel as David Foster Wallace. Siegel is genuinely brilliant in this. He should've got an Oscar nom for this. The film is pretty much two guys just talking for two hours but it never get' boring. Really soulful, beautifully understated film.
Macbeth
DAT CINEMATOGRAPHY
Again ridiculous that it didn't get an Oscar nom
Good to see a Shakespeare adap look truly cinematic. Very smart take on the play.
