That's impressive man.
At my age (in my 40s), I'm not doing anything that keeps my heart rate at 146 for an hour. That's just too intense. I could...like when I ride my bike up and down hills in the summer time...but not often.

I don't do a lot of cardio, but my walks/hikes might have sections where I get up to 130 or so.

You're getting a damn good sweat going by rowing at that rate for an hour, that's for sure.

:salute:

I think I have a strong heart. I've been using polar to track my workouts since 2007 and I can workout for an hr or 2 at 145-170 and be :shaq2: .

What I know now that I didn't know then is you can workout hard at lower intensities. I can burn more calories walking with an incline at a moderate pace for an hour than running for an hour straight. And particularly your body burns fat when your heart is at a lower pace, and burns carbs at a higher pace with protein (muscle as a backup).

It's crazy because elite athletes heart rates are low. Kipchoge can run like 10mph at 135bpm. Elite cyclists can ride 28mph at 140.

That's what happens when you work in those zones. Your heart gets stronger and you can do more work, more efficiently while your heart manages.

Working within my zones is something I've been focusing on for the last few years.

Exactly.

Mfs always want to prioritize work, kids, wife, pets, and other shyt and say they don't have time or are too tired or whatever.

Your job ain't gonna miss you when you die. They're just gonna hire someone else. And your family ...well, they will be sad, it's better for everyone to have exercise as a priority on the same tier and same line as work, family, brushing their teeth, showering, etc.

This.

I was getting on my boy for being a fat unhealthy piece of shyt and its incredible how many excuses he made for not working out. The mindset is the issue. I told him you’d rather do this shyt on your on terms rather than wait for a doctor tell you that you’re gonna die unless you start getting active.

The sad part is most people are gonna wait until they have diabeetus or heart disease to all of a sudden make time for their health. Ass backwards but thats how it is :mjcry:

They might use that as motivation. That could be their sword, or their crutch. People want validation. If a mf that had diabetes went to the gym idk, 5 times a month for 6 months, he may feel since there are no noticeable results mfs wont come down on them hard for 'failing'.

You definitely want to do it on your own terms. Its fun. Hopefully when some of these cats were younger they used to go outside and play, run, jump, climb, ride their bike, play a sport....something active, and had fun with it. Being older is no excuse for not having physical fun. Yeah, we don't get scheduled recess anymore, but we gotta make the schedules.

Did an actual low and slow and kept it low and slow. The lower the heart rate, the more fat calories are used as an energy source and the less tired, sore and better for overall conditioning because the body is going to adapt and perform a higher load while utilizing lower heart rate

Here is a higher workout where my heart rate is higher but I burn carbs for energy instead of fat

This is the workout I should be doing 80% of the time.

Keep grinding out there.

That's good to see.

My only question is....his weight. I'm similar in height but would need to weigh about 175/180 lbs to look like his "after" photo. At 158 lbs, I'd look like a middle distance runner. Small frame or....???

160 lbs isn't frail. But you're right. It depends on a person's frame.
