I found it weird that the whole race war thing isn't part of the backdrop for this movie, because at the end of the day that's what all these right wing nationalists are all about.

I haven't seen it, but I think it's sheer cowardice not to address it if that's the case
It slick is though.
All the Fake Trump soldiers are hillbilly crackas opposed to the multicultural WF. Notice that they smoked the Asian dudes for not being "Americans", even though they're Press. That's pretty on the nose, in my opinion. And a lot of the dead in the pile were non-whites. Obviously those dudes were psychos, but they're actions were inspired and embolden by their allegiance. An Antifa Massacre is also mentioned. And we know what Antifa is used as a scapegoat for in this country

I thought the movie was visually really beautiful and they did a good job of weaving in the contrasting thoughts of dispair/apathy/fear that war brings. But as a story it felt shallow and lacking a good reason to actaully engage with the plot as a whole. I sat there for like 50 minutes wondering when things were going to "pick up" or become more gripping but it stayed with the same almost campy "cautionary tale" of journalism vibe throughout. It's not even really a movie about the civil war it's truly just a buddy flick between Kirsten and her protege lol.... I feel like the writers were too scared to actauly make a statement politically and that's why we really didn't get much details on the war itself...which is unfortunate because it's a great premise especially right now. Overall it was a mid movie script with pretty solid acting and great cinematography...if you got nothjng better to do it's worth a look but keep the expectations low.
Very good synopsis.

Same here. Movie is pretty damn slow before it finally picks up some. The final 30 mins or less is pretty intense. The sound in this film is pretty awesome so if you are a sound lover it may be worth seeing it in the theater but overall it's a bit of a let down.

There's so much to be explored with this premise but ultimately this movie would work better as a limited series. It's more of a movie about journalism with civil war as a back drop.

Movie was good. It did a great job showing the horrors of war in every aspect of society. How photographers tell a story with a lens. A few things I didn't like is the motive for the secession and the NPA were non existent.

I found the experience rather jarring. Took me back to that scene of joker with the 1000 yard stare at the end of full metal jacket. So much destroyed, so many lives ended, and for what? Freedom? If I’m gonna die for a word then my word is poontang.

yeah they imply at some parts the President is a scumbag but not much. After letting this digest not showing the politics and who is what was a huge miss
I think it is the best part. The movie is not about the buildup to a domestic civil war or good guys vs bad guys. It is about the horror of civil war, the loss of civil structure, and the coverage and narcissism / mentality of those who cover it. The reality of war and what it does to citizens and the press hunting glory.

Adding the politics or worse, the gi joe vs cobra aspect to it would honestly ruin the movie to me. I was pro the union naturally more until they gave more (just enough) exposition on the president. It is clear what side is responsible for where we’re at, which is what makes act 3 feel more palpable. More than that, and we’re in “Olympus has fallen” territory.
