They got the gift and the curse of being a part of the last generation of the underground internet/pre-streaming era. Their last projects before really popping off(Para Tu and Shallow Graves for Toys) had a real sound to them, but getting signed comes with this preconceived stipulation that you're supposed to do something different than what got you there, which is what they've been trying for years now
Ill have to go back and listen to that one. You can hear their talent but it feels like they are throwing stuff at the wall from project to project. I get it, but it feels like wasted potential at the end of the day.

You've made it if you're featured on a weeknd album. Breh just needs to drop his next album and watch.

No.

They don't make music with mass appeal. They can certainly become popular and sustainable artists - but they're never going to become superstars :yeshrug:

Earthgang have far more star potential, surprised neither of these songs were bigger

That’s the thing I don’t get with music the past few years. Both EG and JID obviously have songs that could’ve and should’ve blown up, it’s not their fault that people don’t like them lol. Artists be on their 4th mixtape and 5th studio album and people be wondering if they have potential to blow up :russ: Man we got rappers that reached goat status off of 1 or 2 albums! These artists now “might be ready to blow up” after so many years and a bunch of albums. It’s funny.

I didn't care for the transition from like a southern Native Tongues to this eclectic artsy form they occupy.

Love their creativity but it seems like it went from natural to a bit forced.

JID is nice. I used to think he was just a Kendrick clone but he's grown out of that.

Earthgang I'm mixed on. They have some great tracks, but it almost feels like a faux-Outkast, weird for the sake of being weird, vibe

You can’t be a star if you don’t rap about the streets
