There are a lot of things here that doomed Mayo, and it was a combination of things that formed the perfect scenario for Kraft to fire him. I will say that I wasn't on the fire Mayo train all season like many were, but if you actually WATCHED the games, you would see how they would have the same issues game after game. There is a talent issue, but the pre-snap penalties really hurt them and it was time after time.
1. He was a first time head coach that Kraft gave the keys too. First time coaches are hired all the time, but may have a shorter leash.
2. The lack of team discipline.
3. Mayo had numerous times where he made comments after the game that did not sit well with a lot of people in the organization. I think this is something that people will look back on and see as the tipping point.
4. Kraft will say this didn't play a factor (I don't think it did either), but losing that #1 overall pick. I think Kraft already had his mine made up, but once they won, I think he decided to let him go yesterday and not today.
5. I think this is the biggest reason that Kraft got rid of him yesterday, after just one season. I think there's a very high probability that Vrabel will be the head coach. You have a rookie QB that looked excellent this year and tons of cap space. Getting a proven and experience head coach will be big for the team. It doesn't HAVE to be Vrabel, but I think all of the signs are there. I'm also not one that will sit here and say Vrabel is one of the elite coaches, but I do think he will help improve the team.
