Having the #4 pick isn’t even a bad deal for the Pats. They will damn near be forced to pick the best WR in the draft

Nah, they NEEDED that #1 pick. They’re talent depleted across the board. If they had the number 1 pick, they could’ve fleeced a QB desperate team like the Giants, Raiders or Browns to trade several picks (including a couple of 1sts) to move up to #1, like the Panthers did a couple of years ago. They would’ve gotten a great head start at rebuilding that roster with a potential haul like that. That’s why today’s win was so devastating. Now they’re picking at 4, and picks 1,2 & 3 are all occupied by those QB needy teams I just mentioned. They have no leverage now. That win set them back 100%.

It was weird they didn’t go after Vrabel last year when that was the obvious choice. Makes it really seem like they set Mayo up to fail and he was getting fired after this game no matter what.

Meh.........this isn't the NBA where the gap between picks 1 and 4 is significant

The Bears had the 1st pick, fleeced the Panthers, and it got them........looking for a new coach

If you don't a have good FO, then it doesn't matter where that pick landed

it matters because trading the #1 for a stash of picks gives you more opportunities to get it right. when your roster has this many holes, you need as many swings as possible to fill needs successfully.

if your front office sucks that's a you problem. still doesnt justify a shytty draft strategy imo.

You do know they can still trade out of that pick right?

I'm not quite getting the idea that someone is going to ransom their team for the crop of qbs this year. 1st or 4th they were going to pick Hunter, Graham or the big ass WR whose name escapes me. Anyone who traded away several 1sts for the chance at any of these qbs was getting fired in a couple years.

of course they can. but @Rakpo98 laid out exactly why they won't get the same value for doing so. in a weak QB class where everyone is focused almost exclusively on two names, you don't wanna be picking behind the three teams that need QBs. you wanted to be able to get one of those teams to mortgage their short-term future to secure the #1 and get their guy.

The Patriots will have the most cap space of any team or damn near. They can address most issues and then take the best player available and they can always still trade down.
