Not really, at one point console gamers would have LOVED something like this not caring about developers having to do extra work.
Somewhere along the lines console gamers (Sony stans) became PC elitist and determined that the series S is holding gaming back as a whole and dumb, but in reality there is a market for it, and it's no skin off gamers back to insist that those type of options are always available going forward.
Instead they blamed the lack of generational leaps in gaming on 3rd party having to develop for the S and fast forward 4 years in and the PS5 potential is pretty much hard capped and they waiting to speed 700 plus on a pro version giving them there own little version of a PS5(S)
I guess now the PS4 and PS5 base is "holding games back".
In all honesty, the bolded could be seen simply as having an idea that could've worked when it entered development, and then the market changing once the product actually hit the market similar to Concord.
Sucks, but it is what it is. History has tons of corpses of ideas that were actually really solid in theory at some point, but ended up being the opposite in practice.
