Black residents reject Trader Joe’s because it would attract too many white people

I worked at a Grocery store in a black neighborhood. We caught people stealing just about every other hour, and we also had so many bounced checks that the VP of finance personally visited our store to scold us. After he visited the store, he didn't say anything us anymore other than perhaps our store needed a unique check policy. I guess he realized what a nightmare that we had to deal with.

The store eventually shut down due to poor sales, and was replaced by a Chinese market.

And this is why we lose. You try and start a business in black neighborhoods and have to deal with this shyt. When others come in and try to clean it up and gentrify, we lose there too.

Wrong on all accounts . They just want us in one area concentrated . You really think by having us leave is what they want ? Well who is going to work the Targets and Sears and JC Penny's out there? Who is going to work the fast food places and security jobs out there ? Not whites not Asians nor even the Latina are going to do those jobs. This excuse mentality is the biggest problem out there now. Chinese people can come here speak no English and stick together and thrive. West Indians can do the same thing and make it. We could also but we look at the slightest excuse to stop pushing forward . Like when I watch tv and some kid gets shot in the projects and they have some old lame black person saying I lived in these projects for 30 years and it was never this bad like its a proud thing to live in poverty and raising kids to repeat the cycle. The real problem is we don't set a standard to follow. I said in another thread why did those areas have be gentrified in the first place if we would had some pride in the area and kept them clean and safe. Supported the local black store or Restaraunt instead of robbing it or selling dope in front of it. Those are things in our power . Instead of committing a crime and bringing down the area. We could have made education the standard to thrive for. The Latinos who are here have passed us by miles. We nowhere near them. Mexicans work hard and they catching up to the rest of the Latino community and will pass us also .

This is not a dis towards you but I think the only way we as a people will see a change in how we are viewed amongst each other and from others is we have to seperate being poor and being black. You said you worked for a store in a black neighborhood and you mentioned all those problems, but chances are it was a poor community who happen to have black residents. If it was a poor white area, what would have been said was "i worked in a poor neighborhood". I see this all the time when people mention anything negative about a poor area, they connect poor with black, instead of poor with class. This view changes so much things.

For instance, if the owners of these stores had this way of thinking, they would open up the stores in area where blacks are a little better off, so all those problems would be low in numbers( not totally gone being that blacks are all bunched up together a lot of times), and when they do open up directly in poor neighboorhoods, they are prepared to deal with those things because poverty brings crime. When you look at life with such a simple mind of race behind everyhing, you allow problems to invade your life because life and the things we do in it are much deeper.

as well as the neighborhood i grew up in is going through changes as well

this is not the solution at all

the point IMO is to push the people out(specifically poor blacks)...not to "raise the standard of living for everyone" in said area..no opportunity will be given by way of jobs....i see no benefits in this
