Black residents reject Trader Joe’s because it would attract too many white people

Trader Joe's doesn't carry many black owned products, so I go to WholeFoods for that.

Do any of y'all shop at coop markets? Do you think maybe black communities would do better with them instead?

I actually think coops would work great with the right people. There are some small coop businesses in the hood parts of DC so at the very least I know it's possible. It would provide employment for members of the community, have em directly involved in company policies, and provide needed services from the community without needing outside business with outside interests.

Yeah that's exactly why I think it'd be great to bring a coop market to a black community, considering it sells the same shyt as Wholefoods/Trader Joe's but it's significantly cheaper and benefits the community more.

I've been to one in the city, it's a whole bunch of Ethiopians working there. But it's very community based, people living in that neighborhood are loyal to it and actually donate. And from what I've heard, employees get a lot of benefits as well.

Once Starbucks comes through, its over. The first wave of white people will move into the neighborhood. The second wave of whites will move in after seeing the area is safe. The landlords will start raising the rents. The landlords will start selling their properties to be turned into luxury condos and lofts. Now black people that have lived there for 10, 15 years are forced out to the suburbs. Rinse. Repeat. Fukk that.

Okay what does that mean ? Why can't we get it together in amount of time ? You saying that in 15 years we can't do shyt except wait to get pushed out? This is the excuse mentality that I hate. No reason we shouldn't be able to get it going in that amount time like Spanish and Asian and the West Indians do. This reasoning of oh there are whites moving let me shake my fist and complain instead of figuring away to get some of that money to work for the community instead. If we see the signs and read the local papers we can prepare a plan of action instead of reacting after the fact and then pointing the blame at everybody but us.

The one here is smack between a shytty neighborhood and the north side, its patrons are mixed.
