Why does it even matter....good music is good music regardless of what region it originates from
at what point did nerds/hermits/weirdos become the prominent voice concerning all hip hop related issues via the internet???
let's keep it 100% reality..
EVERY coast at one point in time stanned NYC because NYC created hip hop. they all learned from new york what hip hop swag was all about. bun b, scarface, ice t, cube, dre, etc. all show love to the new york OG's that started this shyt
but there definitely came a point where being from new york went from being to to folks from other coasts
when did this shift happen exactly?
We have accents?
uhhhh..... is that really a question??
Technically, everyone does, move out of the city, head to florida and see if people don't let you know right away...
how did i get quoted?
mson quoted your post in the threadAt What Point Did Being A 'New York Rapper' Stop Carrying Weight?.

WEIRD
They got accents
i'm telling you EVERYONE technically has an "ACCENT", it's a regional thing. When i used to live in Chicago I was ignorant about it till I moved to Texas and everyone was like "Hey where are you from, you sound DIFFERENT" there is not one universal way of sounding in the U.S. is what i'm trying to get at.
depends on how you look at it.
it won't ever really go away because a southern dude on the come up if they get a chance to do a joint with a well liked rapper from up top they'll be happy but at the same time these NY guys used to picky and would tell them nah
It happen around 05-06 with the south's prominent take over.
When club and car riding music dictated what's popular.
D4L crushed buildings...
They do not get the proper respect that they deserve.
It also didn't help that all of east coast were beefing with east coast. You had NYC vs. Philly and etc
50 Cent and Jay-Z are the ringleaders in making NYC rap scene what it is today. They beefed with everybody.
NaS not living up to his hype.
Puffy and Jay-Z with its Jiggy/Bling-bling/I have more money than you era.
When The Diplomats broke up,
That's when I knew the NY's Hip-Hop scene was done and over with.
Also, there's only so many times a thug can rap about his desert eagle.
A lot of NYC rappers could not get out their old grimey rap ways.
East coast did not fall off during the West coast reign.
The east still made millions and still had a dictated grip on what was popular in the culture back in the 90's.
West Coast held their own and I give them props and respect because they deserve it.
Sad that the East Coast shytted in the West every chance they got back in the 90's but they are now reduced to making Southern style songs.
Oh how the mighty have fallen.
