Not sure if anyone here has the right to say that considering movies like Matrix and Dark Knight were heavy favorites. Movies with GAPING flaws but squeezed in because of fanboy appreciation.

Gump is a bonadife classic. No beef with someone having it in their top 10.

I'd say the matrix earns it's spot based on impact and being a landmark film tho. Flaws and all. No movie on the list is perfect they all could stand another edit or another pass on the script. MAYBE citizen Kane is prefect but that's a strong maybe.

And you can't say the same about Gump?

No. It's not a landmark film to me. It's impact isn't still being felt today while the films on our top 10 are still impacting film today. Godfather 1/2, Goodfellas, Citizen Kane and pulp fiction are still talked about and imitated. The matrix has inspired 15 years of action films, Empire Strikes Back is still the holy grail of sci fi flicks and like godfather 2, a blueprint for sequels, 2001 is still being dissected and analyzed. Apocalypse Now is in the same vein and Schindler's List is probably the best film about one of the most important and darkest times in our history

So is Avatar, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc...do they deserve to be on the list?
Neither of those movies are anywhere near as popular as Forrest Gump.

There are CHARACTERS, SCENES, MOMENTS, QUOTES that still get referenced to this day. Things that people know even if they haven't seen the movie.

Gary Sinise is an accomplished hollywood actor and he's still Lieutenant Dan to 90% of the people that see his face on TV.

:patrice: Idk breh Pirates as a franchise has grossed around 4-5 billion dollars and that's not including merchandising and video sales and licensing. That's just box office. I don't know if forest is as popular as that. Captain Jack Sparrow is probably more popular than any character in Forrest Gump

The ONLY thing Forrest Gump has been remembered for after 20 years is that stupid box of chocolates line. NOTHING ELSE.
