"diary of a mad band" isn't even one of the best r&b albums of 1993 if you want to be real about it.
yea, Devante is one of my goats but the 2nd half of that album doesn't keep my attention at all.
so what if kc & jojo could actually sing. no disrespect but were you around back then breh? the majority of acts that were poppin in r&b back then could actually sing. youre grading them by 2016 standards, it seems.
Dog, your sounding like a retard now.
Doing hooks on rap songs isn't contributing to hip hop? What do you expect them to do, rap and sing the song? They can only do the hook on a rap song, otherwise if they sung on the whole song, it would be R&B.
PS It's not K-Ci on 'Black Girl Lost', its Jojo. If you don't know that, I don't know where to begin.
Your sounding like a cac shill right now.
ha. respect ur elders. i was definitely around. Jodeci was the soundtrack to a lot of fond memories breh. I just think it's odd to single them out as overrated when they were one of the most consistent groups out at the time. And the jams aged well. But it's different when you dont have memories attached to those records, I suppose. You tombot H Town on the same level. we're gonna have to agree to disagree man lol The Naughty by Nature comparison is a reach too. But it kinda makes sense that you would feel that way.
Overrated by who? I hate threads like these. Sounds like OP is just attention whoring again with a controversial thread title. As if we need any more of those.
EDIT: and there was a RACK of R&B acts in the 90s that could not sing....cmon, fam
I understand the sentimental value of jodeci. I myself have plenty of memories attached to jodeci. the thing is, I know how to put sentimentalism to the side.
and let me ask you this, what ALBUM CUTS by jodeci take you down memory lane? and don't lie or hit up google.
jodeci consistent? sure they were with the singles, but their albums stayed with skips.
I questioned your age because some of your arguments look funny in the light. your main selling point was that "they can actually sing", as if darn near every r&b act back then weren't legit singers themselves.
h-town was HUGE while on an indie label. this is the group that youre singling out?
don't try to edit that chit in now.
and I never said that there weren't r&b stars back then that couldn't sing. lol. you must be new here. I'm known for pushing around Aaliyah & fans, as well as people who overhype usher.
but those types weren't the majority, and they dam sure weren't dominating.
for you to sit up here and say "they could actually sing" has you looking funny in the light. that's why I questioned your age.
I agree to some degree, but their first two albums are definitely classics, or close to it...
You wasn't feelin you got it or sweaty? You got it was a major cross overAs much as I love Jodeci. The reality is, HALF of their first 2 albums are classic. ie the first 5-6 songs on the albums, then after that it was clearly downhill.
It's weird actually. The songs that are good are completely timeless. Production that will never be duplicated, amazing vocals, harmonies.....then the uptempo stuff was just not good it's like they didn't try on the back half of the album.
see..you'll make a halfway decent point then say some ridiculous shyt like the bolded lol. You tryna tell me damn near every r&b group in the 90s could sing? for real? And I know most Jodeci songs without googling. From a production standpoint and song sequencing, etc is how they separated themselves IMO Boyz II Men had a vibe that some people preferred over Jodeci and vice versa. . I fukks with H-Town and RIP to Dino but cmon fam. You must be from Houston or something. In DC and MD, there was no comparison...at all. Now Boyz II Men, Tony Toni Tone...sure. But H-Town and some of those other groups you named were not on that same tier.
nikka..i'ont pay attention to who posts what like that . I've been around since SOHH fam. Those were your words AND you reiterated it. So when i pointed that K-Ci and Jojo could actually sing....which would be a major factor in determining a group as overrated, you tried to make it seem like EVERY act back then could sing so that wasn't saying much.
I think you cats are confusing Shai with Troop. Shai wasn't poppin like that brehs
