Who is "overrating" Jodeci? People love them like myself but I doubt there's a need to call them overrated just because. I don't know anybody who outright argues that they're a GOAT group so there's no point in calling them overrated in the first place.

theyre now pretty much seen as the be-all/end-all.

how is that not overrated?

people act like it was all about jodeci & boyz II men, because they were the only 2 male groups that consistently got that push. other groups like silk & shai were on smaller labels. h-town was indie.

along with tony toni tone, if we're counting the bands. but chit, i always thought mint condition was colder than them, but again - smaller label than what tony toni tone was on.

tbh I'm having trouble thinking of the a better R&B guy group from that decade but if you wanna throw in female R&B groups from the 90s I'd easily give swv, en vogue, and tlc the nod over them. Maybe even 702 but that's a personal pick

i might catch flack for this, but i always look at these male groups as pretty much equals.

jodeci
boyz ii men
h-town
silk
blackstreet

and gotta throw in the bands:
mint conditrion
tony toni tone - if you count them for that era.

and i gotta make a place for
BBD
hi-five

PUT THOSE 9 in whatever order.
that 10th spot
between shai, intro and whatever other heavy-hitter i might be forgetting.
I'm leaning towards shai. that 1st run they had was serious but they fell off hard after that.

jokes.. Diary of a Mad Band is a certified classic and one of the best R&B albums of that decade at least. Devante was a beast on production, mane. K-Ci and Jojo could actually sing. For them to thrive in a golden era of R&B says a lot.

"diary of a mad band" isn't even one of the best r&b albums of 1993 if you want to be real about it.

yea, Devante is one of my goats but the 2nd half of that album doesn't keep my attention at all.

so what if kc & jojo could actually sing. no disrespect but were you around back then breh? the majority of acts that were poppin in r&b back then could actually sing. youre grading them by 2016 standards, it seems.

THIS THIS THIS.

and they got away with it.

if they were rappers, they would be naugty by nature. lol. treach stayed in their videos too.

and I say that with respect cuz I was a naughty by nature fan too. but look at how that lack of a classic album hindered their legacy.
Jodeci I would say if often the favorite of cats that are primarily Rap fans and don't get as in depth with R and B, I listen to a decent amount of R and B, but I myself could somewhat fall in this category to be honest so i'm saying this as a fan

i did u threw me off when you said they copy bbd :mjlol: cac jodeci had male and females copy their style

I'm talking about jodeci getting credit for the fashion.

BBD was doing that before jodeci even came out. and everybody was copying BBD style.

hell, when jodeci first came out, they weren't even on that tip until andre Harrell had puffy give them a makeover.

only difference is BBD would experiment by rocking the craziest chit half the time......and people still followed behind them. as opposed to jodeci, who stuck to the script and dressed like rappers all the time.

yea I peeped that.

most of the people that list jodeci as their favs, don't even listen to the albums.........hence, the reason why jodeci got away with living off of singles.

I appreciate your honesty. I was waiting for someone to keep it real and drop this post. this is the best post in this thread.

EDIT: I tried to rep you, but I guess they took the reps off. hopefully, they get rid of it altogether, but if they bring it back before I forget about it, i'll rep you.

Well the biggest R&B quartet of the 90s was Boyz II Men anyway and they were birth from New Jack Swing. I don't think Jodeci was overrated I actually think they were on the verge of being one of the best groups ever the thing was they broke up too soon before they had a chance to fall off.

truf

in fact, I can't think of a single Jodeci song I like. Their shyt sounds so dated to me

Disclaimer: SirBiatch is NOT an R&B guy. so take his R&B musings with a grain of salt. Don't get so mad over one guy's opinion

:whoa:

I cant cosign that.

but I dapped you for your bold outspoken sassiness.

I agree to some degree, but their first two albums are definitely classics, or close to it...
Their run was very short, 4-5years, but they broke up and was still hot with K-Ci and JoJo and the Degrates with productions...

so much filler on those albums. I can wrap up their 1st 2 joints within 1 hour, and not bat an eye at all the tracks I skipped.

ehh, their run was long enough by modern standards. most groups by this point, either broke up or had bad deals or just burnt out after 4 or 5 years.

and before you bandwagoners break into fake outrage; let me say, I was an actual fan of theres in real-time. and I still am, but I don't know how much longer its gonna last with this ever-growing stench.

2 things I love about jodeci:
- they have the best singles catalog of modern-day r&b
- on paper, theyre the goat. by that I mean, you have kc & jojo as the frontmen vocally. Devante was making a run for goat producer. Dalvin was another great musical guy in the background and he would bust his lil raps on the remixes that made you feel like the coolest dude in the world while reciting them. that starting lineup is untouchable. not just for modern r&b but that goes for any r&b group of any era. yea I said it.

2 negatives that stand out to me:
- sure they have the best singles catalog, but they don't have a real classic album. they were basically the naughty by nature of r&b, and they got away with it. out-the-park homerun singles but the albums always fell short.
- they get credit for being the pioneers of all this chit, but in reality, they were just rolling with chit that was already poppin. they didn't start any of the stuff they get credit for.
